Grape-Nuts Fit

I love original Grape-Nuts. I also loved a cereal that came out in 2006 called Grape-Nuts Trail Mix Crunch. This cereal isn't as good as either of those, but it's not bad.

Grape-Nuts Fit is made up of crunchy whole grain nuggets, small granola clusters, puffed barley and dried cranberries. The crunchy nuggets aren't the same as those in original Grape-Nuts. They're not as dense.

Texturally, this cereal is a bit of a crazy mishmash. Some people might like that, but I found it too cacophonous. In milk, you get a gentle crunch from the nuggets, a neutral texture from the granola, a soft texture from the puffed barley and a slightly chewy texture from the dried cranberries.

As for taste, the first thing that hits you is vanilla and that flavor remains the major player as you eat an entire bowl. The second most dominate flavor is cranberry with its expected combination of fruity, sweet and tangy. The cranberries work pretty well here because they offset the general whole grain flavor of the nuggets and granola. The "lightly crunchy nuggets" and granola remind me of extras in a movie scene. You don't notice them specifically but their presence help make the two major actors look good.

Ironically, the one thing that would have made Grape-Nuts Fit better is Grape-Nuts. The original cereal has a distinct flavor and a unique crunch. Since the Fit cereal is a circus of textures already, why not exploit that fact, add more flavor and stay true to your roots.

In the end, I thought Grape-Nuts Fit was alright. It tastes good and it kept me full until lunch. I won't be rushing out to get a new box, but I would consider buying it again if there was a really good sale.

Found this recently packaged in a ziploc plastic bag, sold as "granola" instead of as a box of cereal. Unfortunately it's past expiration date and it smelled funny when I opened it. Not having tried it before I'm not sure how it usually smells but it tasted OK.

I tried this cereal a couple of months ago and loved it. Unfortunately, when I tried to find another box at all the local stores I could not find any. May have to start ordering it from Amazon!

Wow, it's the best cereal I have ever eaten. I buy it in bulk like 6 to 8 boxes at a time. I even eat it for supper sometimes because it is so packed with such good nutrients. Please don't ever stop making it! I recommend it to all the cashiers. ;)

Can't rate yet as I'm buying it today. But honestly I'm shocked at the original Grape Nuts lovers. Talk about tasteless and cracking a tooth... THAT I can attest to.

One of the worst cereals I have tasted. Original Grape-Nuts are great. This is awful.

The name of this cereal is completely misleading; nothing like real Grape Nuts (which we love)! We add some of it to other cereals that do have a crunch so it's lasting forever - may join the bird feeders!

Not at all what I expected or hoped for. As other posts, I too expected it to relate somehow to the original Grape Nuts (which I love). I find the taste very boring and the texture more than a bit off. I was going to throw the whole box away until I saw the suggestion of feeding it to birds. Hopefully this cereal will keep the birds full of energy on their daily adventures.

I'm more than disappointed. It doesn't taste good at all. Should have stuck with the original Grape-Nuts.

I hate this stuff... I was expecting something similar to Grape Nuts... nowhere close... I'm feeding it to the birds, then going out to buy some real Grape Nuts... yuck!

Yes, the thing this Grape Nuts Fit needs is Grape Nuts. I have bought this cereal twice, by mistake and gave it to the birds. They should state on the box, 'this cereal contains no real Grape Nuts.'

Ick... Too weird of a combination for me. I (like others) bought it with Grape Nuts in mind as was very disappointed. The only thing this cereal has in common with Grape nuts is the name. The flavor isn't completely awful if it didn't have the hateful floating puffy things. My technique is to pour the cereal, pour in too much milk, scrape the hateful floaty things in the sink and eat the remainder. When the box is gone I won't be replacing it.

I would be marking this as 'okay', instead of a lower mark, if the cranberries were edible without extreme effort. The dried cranberries were too hard and not chewy. However, the cranberries added to the flavor which over all was 'okay'. Worth noting and not mentioned so far is that one of the ingredients has that cardboard taste, but when you have the mish-mash of all of it together it's not really very noticeable. Which is why I would have considered buying it again for the health benefits if the best flavor component wasn't a chore to eat.

Will NOT buy again! It was not like I expected at all! Grape Nuts are Great, and that is what I will continue to buy. The only good thing I can say is... It reminded me of my dad and sugar snap cereal when I was younger.

Product Rating (out of 5):

I'm eating Grape Nuts Fit cereal as I type this. I honestly don't know how you managed to find 4 Golden Eggs worth of pleasure out of eating this, it is pretty terrible. Are there granola pieces in this? I can't seem to taste them. When I bought it at the store, I mistook those "lightly crunchy nuggets" as actual Grape Nuts, which I love. I'm now trying pretty hard to convince myself that they aren't dog pellets. I've added a few pieces of diced/dried pineapple to no avail. Despite it soaking in milk, the consistency never changes - it remains a cacophony until the very end.
