Strawberry Chex

By Kellie Dancho of Catawissa, PA:

When you mention Chex cereal, I have to admit that the only reason you'll find it in my cupboard is to make my grandma's recipe for Chex Mix - that deliciously salty holiday favorite.

I have to say, though, that I was pleasantly surprised by how tasty the new Strawberry Chex cereal is. The cereal looks like the standard Chex - but is a blend of corn & rice Chex. One in every 5 pieces of cereal is coated with a pink candy-type strawberry coating. Unlike most other recent strawberry-flavored cereals, Strawberry Chex embraces that they are adding what is essentially a candy coating to a healthy cereal.

Knowing that all dehydrated and artificial strawberry flavors never really taste like the 'real thing', Chex stands out by finding the right mix of a subtle strawberry flavor a la that of a Starburst candy.

Overall, the cereal isn't too sweet - the key word here is subtlety. I think it's the kind of cereal that both kids and moms will find agreeable. Good work Chex! (Just eat it quickly - the cereal gets soggy just as quickly as it's original counterpart.)

Quick Review From Mr Breakfast:

First, I want to thank Kellie D. for writing the review above. I super love it when breakfast lovers take the time to do that. Great work Kellie!

I'm in total agreement. Strawberry Chex is a great cereal. I've trashed some strawberry-flavored cereals recently because they bash you over the head with artificial flavor. This cereal finally got it it right. The taste of strawberry compliments the flavor of the original cereal, instead of dominating it. Instead of going, "Whoa!", you'd be more apt to say "Mmmm... what a nice touch."

I found that the strawberry flavor reminded me of the filling of a jelly donut or the layer of jelly in Nutrigrain-type bars.

The only thing that bothered me about this cereal is that each serving contains less than one gram of dietary fiber. These days, even the most sugar-coated kid's cereal will contain at least one gram.

Nutrition Information:

Each 3/4 cup serving contains: 130 calories, 0 grams trans fat, 0 grams saturated fat, 8 grams of sugar, less that 1 gram of dietary fiber, 26 grams of total carbs and 2 grams of protei

Can someone tell me where to find this cereal? I use to not eat cereal but I love strawberries so I thought I would give it a shot no one in my house likes chex but me so I thought I would have a whole box to myself. The first day I brought it home I poured a handful in my hand and couldn't wait to eat a bowl. I wake up the next morning and the box was empty everyone in the house ate at least 2 bowls or more before I even came down stairs I was mad and sad. I go to the store and bought another box but I took it to work with me and every morning ate it at work. It quickly became my favorite cereal but after that box was gone I have never been able to find it anywhere. Please some one tell me how I can find more my whole family and I are jonesing for more STRAWBERRY CHEX!!!

My whole family has a gluten allergy and this cereal was the best, both adults and the kids loved it. Sucks to see such a good cereal removed, it was our favorite from the chex cereals... why, has anyone found out why? We would buy like 5 boxes at a time...

I love this cereal but can no longer find it. Did it cause cancer? Maybe GM secretly pulled it from the shelves.

This cereal is great! I just used it instead of Rice Krispies in marshmallow treats, and they were wonderful. We've wound up eating it straight out of the box rather than for breakfast -- it's that good.
