seen big lines to get in this place, i though must be great. went in once and really i did not see nothing extraordinary, it's just like another eating place, in fact i though it was below other nice eat places. the food it's okay, the place is below average. i don't understand why people make lines and wait to go in there. i don't ever make a line for 'any' restaurant, with so many restaurant out there why make line and wait? that's just me.

Open continuously 24-7 since 1924. (yes, even during the riots). Expect a line outside nearly all morning long. This is 'the' diner of diners in L.A.

It is very reasonable, very generous in its portions, and very hard-boiled on ambiance and cheer. They bake their own bread on premises and sell it next door.

Mostly a cash only business, and you pay the cashier who sits inside a barred booth. Most of the employees are parolees or former inmates. (that is not a joke) it is part of what gives this LA landmark a unique reputation.

They are always open.

In my opinion, the food's a bit greasy. But, compared to what's around Downtown, maybe your best bet. 6-year local resident.
