The one thing I miss most from back east is the freshness and quality of the food.
My experience with the Black Bear Diner, and this applies to the other one I've tried as well is the fact that their eggs are horrendous! For the volume of eggs that they purchase they are recieving what have to be the oldest eggs I've ever been served. I spoke with the manager at the Avondale location and naturally his response was "We get egg deliveries every day" but sadly he didn't realize that the flat, runny, pale orbs he was serving up were nearly on their last legs.
With hen fruit a breakfast staple, if you've ever had fresh eggs, and yes, even at a restraunt, then you'd never order them here except as hard scrambled.
Other than that, the service was good, the pancakes were ordinary but acceptable, and the atmosphere was conducive to a enjoyable breakfast time.
