OK -This is the first time I have ever written a review for a restaurant but I felt a compelling need to do so for Mama Steves. Overall the food was OK but service requires some comment. First of all, they all were pretty old, which is fine because I am too, but they were very slow and took sit down breaks quite often. Ours, in particular, shold have used a Lark to get around the restaurant. She was so crippled and bent over that she had to keep one hand free to support herself on the backs of chairs and patrons as she moved between the tables. Her station was the closest to the kitchen so her route was less traveled. When she had a large order to deliver she had someone else do it because of only having the one hand to use. Since there were only two of us she brought our breakfast plates stacked on top of each other which, of course, broke the egg yokes.
I would rate the entertainment value 5 stars.

My first reaction to entering this restaurant is that there were too many tables for the space available. I felt like I was eating in an airline seat. The two hostesses were busy chatting with each other and generally ignoring the potential customers. I had a sensation of being a cog in an assembly line--get 'em in, get 'em fed, get 'em out.

The two-person table at which we sat was already crowded--a big bowl of creamers, a wire basket of jelly packs, two bottle of syrup, two cups of sugar and other sweeteners. All these (on every table, whether needed or not) cut about 9 inches off of the 30 inch table width and added to the feeling of being wedged in.

I had bacon and eggs, hash browns, wheat toast. The eggs came with one yolk broken. The bacon was excellent--five slices, thick and crisp. I happen to like it this way, but a diner at the table next to me complained that the bacon was too crisp. The waitress said that's the way it came and then never returned to the table. This personified the sense of attitude I received from this restaurant: "You don't like it? Too bad. You're probably just a tourist and we'll see a thousand like you next week."

Not a horrible experience, but the only points memorable were negatives.

If you visit Williamsburg it should be required that you have breakfast here. The place it not fancy but the line waiting out the door should tell you something. Maybe it's a little nostalgia on my part but this is the best breakfast in town and the service is fairly quick.
