I agree! Looks like the people have spoken. Don't go to Roman's as it's actually been shut down for good. CLOSED.

I really, really wanted to like my breakfast at Roman's. It's close to my place. As a matter of fact, many of the articles on MrBreakfast.com were partially written on Roman's patio. They have a coffee shop adjacent to the restaurant and I've always liked the service and coffee I've gotten there. The coffee shop portion of the restaurant has a baked goods counter... and let me tell you... these are some of the most beautiful looking baked goods you'll find for blocks. Unfortunately, the taste never quite lives up to the presentation. It's their fault. They shouldn't make them look so delicious.

The other side of Roman's is the restaurant. You order your food at a counter and they give you big number to display on your table. Naturally, you don't expect a lot of service. But you'd hope the small amount you get might be friendly and efficient. I'm sad to report that wasn't the case at my breakfast.

Roman's Bakery And Grill I ordered the Roman's Scrambler - basically eggs scrambled with onions, peppers and mushrooms, topped with cheddar cheese. The lady I was with ordered the Ranchero Omelette - advertised on the menu as eggs with onions, shredded pepper jack cheese and jalapenos. We also ordered a side of bacon (4 pieces) to share. The girl at the counter was a little overwhelmed as a line started to form soon after we arrived. She seemed slightly confused and it was clear that getting through the line took precedence over being friendly.

Alright, so they were busy. No big deal. I understand that. We took our big number and waited at a table... and waited. The girl from the counter intended to bring us our order, but she delivered it to the wrong table and was told the order was wrong. Instead of finding the right table, she returned the meals to the heat lamps and continued to take more orders. You know that feeling when you see plates returned to the heat lamps and you hope like heck that it isn't your meal. It's a rough feeling and no way to start your day.

Roman's Bakery And Grill We finally got our meals and, right away, we found something unacceptable. The bacon was cold. What's more... it was broken in pieces and served in a bowl. We kindly asked for warm bacon. Within minutes, new bacon came... on a plate and unbroken. But now... there were only three pieces, instead of the four we ordered. We let it slide. We really wanted to eat.

I started by eating a slice of bacon... horrible bacon. Seriously, it tasted more like pork cracklings than the delicious breakfast meat we love. It was all too clear that the bacon had been fried, cooled and reheated.

Roman's Bakery And GrillWe're off to a pretty bad start right? Well, I'm glad to report that that was the worst of it. The main portions of our meals were actually very good. My scramble was chuck-full of fresh vegetables. The ratio of veggies to eggs might be higher than most people would like, but it hit me just right. My breakfast buddy's omelette was great... cheesy and spicy. The portions were large enough to satisfy our fairly large appetites.

I think the bottom line is that Roman's has potential. It's a fairly new restaurant and they're looking to improve - at least that's what I took the presence of their comment/suggestion box to mean. I left a comment card asking them to read this review.

So here it is:

Dear Roman's,

You're doing a nice job with your breakfast entrees but you have to get your side of bacon fixed up. And this dinner roll that you serve with breakfast... it's a dinner roll, a hard roll that isn't conducive to eating with eggs. When you get busy, you should put someone else on the counter. Your poor girl is getting all frazzled. With a few minor adjustments, people will say "Go to Roman's for breakfast. It's great". But for now we say, "Roman's is pretty iffy. You wanna maybe drive to Dukes or the Griddle." I hope you work out these problems. Your prices are very reasonable and the atmosphere is great. Oh, one more thing... the DVDs that you play on your flat screen TV... do you have anything besides Marc Anthony. I saw that when I had your pizza (which was great) for dinner the other night.

Thanks!
