I realize this evaluation is for Beaverton, OR, but I want to direct your attention to Black Bear Diner in Paradise, CA. It is AWESOME!! The food is excellent, the management is excellent and the service is excellent!!! Can't say enough good things about it. They serve so much on an omelet order that my husband and I split an order and it is just enough for us. We used to order each of us an omelet and always took half of it home for the next morning, but now just share a meal...

The only good thing about our experience at this diner was the waitress. She was attentive and friendly, and when we complained about the pancakes, she immediately took them off our table and off our bill. I wish I had gotten her name!

Every other aspect of that meal was a bust. The beef in my tri-tip scramble was tough (did they cook it by boiling it?!), the country gravy was bland and flavorless, and the pancakes were undercooked. To top it all off, the manager wouldn't honor the coupon our realtor had given us. He came to our table and claimed that they had been "getting a flood" of these coupons lately and that they were only distributed to one real estate agent 4 years ago when the diner first opened. Never mind that the coupon had NO EXPIRATION DATE and was even signed by the owner! He then went on to demean our realtor, insinuating that she must have grabbed the coupons off the desk of this agent after he left the company and started distributing them willy-nilly. We were blown away by his unprofessionalism! Even if what he said was true, he should have honored the coupon and taken up this issue with the real estate company that received these coupons. Both our realtor and other customers of hers have recently used these coupons without any complaint or comment from the diner. Even our wonderful waitress agreed that the diner should have honored our coupon. Maybe the owner should make her the manager and fire the idiot who's currently running the place! Obviously, we won't be back, and we'll be warning our friends away from this diner, too.

We have had good experiences most all of the time we have eaten here. On one occasion our food was burnt. We like the quantity and the variety of foods. The last rater was unfair and must not be a frequent patron. My wife and I have been there often enough to use a frequent diner card.

Past Bear Patron....

After reading these reviews I want to say the Bear has changed from when it first opened. We stopped going to the bear about a year ago. The service quality dwindled, the food became either over-done or under-done and just took TOO long to re-order. Refills were ridiculous and basically there was only 1 server left that was any good. I don't know if Linda is there but if she is, ask for her to get the best treatment. The prices kept getting higher and higher. At least 2 times I became ill after eating at the Bear and now I am wondering about the cleanliness.

I don't mind paying a little more for good food but the Bear is not where your going to find it.

The management is poor, poor, poor... They run around on the weekend like chickens with their heads off. My advice, try another place!

Black bear diner beaverton started as a great company. I had worked for them since day one. Management has imensley effected my recent decesion to leave them. They do not pay overtime. They have recently stopped using sanatizer while washing dishes. a precausion used in restaurants to prevent foodborn illness. Also when the dishwasher runs out of soap they continue to wash dishes in coldwater. there is one sink in the front of the house that actually has hot water to wash hands with. Which doesnt seem to bug the owner. if it did they would fix the other two sinks, one of which is actually broken, has been since opening of this hellish diner. Breakfast meat is pre cooked. so if you want baccon after two you are most likely eating pork that is hours old, YUUUM! They cut their salad in a sink in the disgusting back of the house. the floor in the actual kitchen where the cooks stand is covered in food from open til close when they clean it. most look at the bathroom and if it is cleaned then the kitchen must be too right? NO WAY. i would rather they cooked food in the bathroom. maybe then the cooks would wash their hands. There is no break room for employees so we were forced to take a break in the front where we still technically have to work. I would not recommend that you eat at Black Bear, not as a disgruntled employee, but as a person that knows the innerworkings.

My family has been dining at the Black Bear in Beaverton since it opened and LOVE IT. The staff and management have always been extremely polite and helpful. The food is amazing and the atmosphere is great for the family.

Not to mention the community support they provide. They sponsor the elementary school in our neighborhood and I think they are also very involved with Beaverton High School. This is the kind of business we need to support in our community.

It is too bad that disgruntled former employees can use this form to express their biased and negative thoughts, as it reflects poorly not on the Diner but on themselves.

I can say that Black Bear in Beaverton has the worst mangement team ever. Owner is a 25 year old that has not enough skills to run the gold mine sitting on that corner. He has kept in place a manager that has no people skills, except to state that all servers and cooks are stupid and if a customer had a complaint it must be because they are white or a woman. Not to mention the fact that he began a relationship with a server at the restaurant that was new to the area and coming out of a 25 year abusive marriage. She is no longer employed there but the manager remains with his job. The kitchen is filthy and there was no lids on nothing until just recently in the coolers. The kitchen manager that started the BHS feed for the athletes has since quit because of the hosilities with the owner. My comments are based on experience with that company. We as a community should not support it. Not to mention the fact that he also takes advantage of the hispanics working for him with worming around and not paying overtime. That was also the case with others as well until a server contacted a lawyer about her lost wages and no breaks. She won.

These are facts and true statements.

We regularly stop at the Black Bear Diner in Mt. Shasta on our way up north for the holidays. My problem is, they specialize in all the foods I love to indulge in..but don't really make at home that often. Its kind of like eating at your grandmother's. You probably won't find most of what they do at Chez Panisse, but its the stuff memories are made of.

Oh..by the way--the one in Bend? I'm originally from Bend. Of late, I think the whole town has kind of grown full of itself. Really amazing places I remember--like The Pine Tavern (it used to be a legend) and some of the out of the way places I used to know--just don't really try anymore. Next time you're there though--you might try the Pilot Butte Drive-In on Greenwood--at the foot of Pilot Butte.

Black Bear Diner used to be one of my favorite places, when I went to Bend to visit my sister it was a must eat place...and when Beaverton opened I was way excited and it was wonderful for months...but unfortunately now I am getting reoccurring Lyons memories from the undercooked eggs to the over cooked bread and meat...please take a history lesson and don't hire the people who used to make Lyons the catastrophe that it was! Please take note of other Bear locations and bring back the food that was once the highlight of the Black Bear Restaurant.

We really loved this place, but we had one bad experience that has made it so that we will not be returning. We were meeting a large party of friends for breakfast. We were seated. One friend missed the highway exit on 217 and was late. Our waitress and a manager were *quite* rude about the fact that we wanted to wait for the last member of our party before ordering. They were looking at over $100 worth of business from our group, but were still rude.

I understand that they need to move tables in order to keep their business going, but even a modicum of patience and understanding goes a long way toward customer service, reputation, and the repeat business of diners.

Familiar with their other locations, my husband and I became regulars for some time soon after they opened. We usually ordered the corned beef hash, which was generous with the corned beef.

However, once the place gained mass popularity the service deteriorated and the corned beef hash became substantially more potato than corned beef. This caused it to become a breakfast of potatoes with a dash of hash.

Since the sides of this plate are hashbrowns/potatoes o'brien plus toast/biscuit, it became ridiculously high in carbs - not worth the $$ anymore.

We stopped frequenting their business, and will not return.

Your buck - your choice. There are much better places to spend your breakfast dollars. Just check out the other places on this website.

My family and I love going to Black Bear's Diner, my 3 yr. old always tells us, "lets go see the 3 little bear's for breakfast"! They are a little costly but well worth it because there servings are HUGE! and they have homemade biscuits and orange juice, mmm! we always enjoy going here and the service is great.
Try it you'll love it!

The Black Bear Diner is one of my favorite places. Some of my favorites are the granola almond pancakes (mmmm), the thick sliced bacon and chubby breakfast links, the bbq pork sandwich (which comes with Linguica beans...mmm...), and the hot turkey sandwich. The portions are BIG (too big, but can always take home), 99% of the service is great, and the place is doggone cute as can be. My one dissapointment was the bread pudding...very dry...but maybe it was just a bad day...and I should give it another try sometime. It really is a great place.

About 10 of us went and really enjoyed it! The food was so tasty and portions were LARGE. Coffee tasted great and was constantly refilled. Their granola pancakes are to die for and so are their omelettes. Even the little 1 year olds with us enjoyed themselves. Service was great even with us having such a large group. We've been there for dinner as well - yummy!!! They don't take reservations, so come early if you have a large group, you might wait 10-20 minutes. There's also a great little gift shop too. We are definate fans of the Black Bear!
