Overall overrated. Heard from several sources you need to go here for their famous shrimp and grits. They opened at 9:00 am on Sunday. Arrived 9:06 and couldn't get seated til 10:00 because of the line. Restaurant was warm. Ordered the shrimp and grits for $16.95 which was almost twice as much as the other stuff on the menu. Although it was very tasty, it was a very small serving and I left hungry. My table mate (met while waiting for a table) had the so called big country breakfast and it was small too and only came with one sausage patty which they make onsite and treat like gold. Coffee was good but refills had to be asked for. Won't be back. $24 out the door just for me.

After seeing this place on Man v. Food, we thought we had to try it out! Sadly, it wasn't the best experience. We were seated and then a party came in and wanted to push tables together. My husband and I said "we will move so you can use our table." We took our breakfast menu's with us to another table and then waited 6-8 minutes for our server to come greet us. When he did he snapped at us that it was too late for breakfast. (It wouldn't have been if he had arrived at the table in a timely manner) and then when we said we had asked (which we did) if we could still get breakfast, he said "nope, sorry," snatched the menu's from the table and left. It was our anniversary and we just wanted to celebrate with a great meal. We ended up getting breakfast, but not without having to talk to the manager and getting yet, a third table. The food was okay, but nothing to write home about. The experience was overall bad. I wouldn't go back.

Tasty southern-style cooking. Best grits in town. The baked goods are fresh and delicious. It's a little pricey and the server-to-customer ratio is a little low for my liking, but it's definitely worth one visit to see what you think.

I come from a city (Nashville) that knows how to do breakfast, so I have pretty high expectations for the places I eat at on the road. That being said, my experience at the Hominy Grill was top-notch.

From the moment I walked in the door, the service was friendly, without being obnoxiously so. The coffee was brought out promptly and kept full and hot throughout my meal. The meal itself was quality: perfectly-cooked eggs, homemade sausage, great homefries (substituted for free, I might add), and delicious strawberry jam for the toast, all of which was literally heaped on to the plate.

The food was reasonably priced, especially considering that the restaurant attracts a lot of tourists; my whole meal and the coffee were about $9.00. This one's certainly worth a visit if you're ever in Charleston.
