Been eating at the Suomi for over 20 years, regularly as a college student, now when I visit the area. The Finnish pancakes are fantastic, so is the rye toast and thimbleberry jam. The basic egg, potato, bacon breakfast is just how it should be - nothing fancy, straight-forward, hot, comfortable. Decor reminds of me of Grandma's house, you know the one, in the "old neighborhood."

I discovered the Suomi Restaurant while vacationing in the area. I ate every breakfast meal there! The Pannukakku (Finnish Pancake) is absolutely awesome plus add traditional bread and good strong coffee and you'll be able to hike up Brockway Mountain with no problem.

Very inexpensive, good service, average decor this place is a MUST on any trip to Houghton.

Sumoi Restaurant is an outstanding way to experience the Finnish flavor of the quaint little town of Houghton. They specialize in blueberry pancakes as big as your plate, nisu (Finnish coffee bread) French toast, and various other Finnish specialties that are hard to pronounce, but wonderful to eat. The bakery is full of tasty goodies like Nisu cinnamon rolls and apple turnovers. Most of the breakfast entres come with unlimited coffee refills. This is a favorite place for the older locals to hang out and have breakfast together, but lots of students and young families love to eat there as well.
