Love the Breakfast menu, Enjoy the Servers (they make us feel at home), Like the Cozy Atmosphere (close and tight) and the Prices are a Value in today's economy. Mom and I meet for breakfast once a month at Waysider's and completely enjoy ourselves. But, today, my 60th birthday breakfast with Mom brought a big surprise! I ordered my eggs over easy with the whites done. I had to send them back twice because the whites were very runny, no problem for me, I was in no hurry. But upon returning them the second time, the owner shouted from the kitchen, "What Now!" and came from the kitchen to publicly instruct me on how to ordered my eggs for the kitchen. My Mother and our waitress was astounded and embarrassed, I figured the owner was just having a bad morning. Surely, this is not normal behavior for her! Either way, Mom and I will not be returning to the Waysider, until Mom forgives the incident and she's known to hold a grudge for a very long time.
If this type of incident would have mortified you, the next time you dine at the Waysider- DON'T return anything to the kitchen, just suck it up and eat it raw. Marci

Why anyone would complain about this wonderful place is beyond my thinking. The food is delicious. The tomato gravy and biscuits are wonderful. Probably the negative responses are from a "yankee" who doesn't even know what breakfast is, unless you talk about bagels or someone from a rival team who came in a got their brains beat out. Anyway, you should go there to enjoy the atmosphere and the wonderful food.

Had to wait 45 minutes for the table. Had time to look over the venue. At best the structure that hosts the venerable"Wayfarer" is a littered vermin infested fire trap. Like the place where some crazy loner has lived for the last 30 years. The place should be condemned.

Once inside and seated - nothing. Waited an HOUR after placing order for our food and nothing!!! Finally walked out. Food might be good but let's get real, it's breakfast. How hard is it grill ham or fry an egg?

I absolutely loved Waysider. Their food is delicious, well that is if you like true southern cooking. Just a hint though, on a sunday or a football weekend, get there early. The line gets extremely long, but its so worth the wait!

I surely don't want to be a hater on a local establishment, but I don't think Waysider lives up to other "awesome" 5-egg rating. I always use this site when traveling and it's never led me wrong--until now. This place is just not that great. Sorry! The atmosphere plays a charming tribute to the football legends--a fairly common design theme in Tuscaloosa, but if you're not that into football prints, there's not much for you. And the food is just really average. On the upside, the service is great, and you'll be "sugar, honey and darlin-ed" to death.

Of course, we all have different tastes, but this one just didn't do it for me.

If the old adage about "eating where the locals eat" to find the best food is valid at all, then The Waysider is a perfect example. Old fashioned Southern breakfast is the house specialty here.
Hot, fluffy biscuits, delicious cheese grits, and good service. I discovered The Waysider a couple of decades ago as a student at the Univ. of Alabama, and still make it a point to get to town at the crack of dawn on football Saturdays to grab a seat for breakfast. Well worth your time when you are in Tuscaloosa.

The Waysider is a long-time favorite in Tuscaloosa. It is extremely popular with sports fans in town for University of Alabama events. They serve breakfast each day except Monday, and lunch M-Th. Their Southern-style breakfasts are legendary and they have a regular lunch clientele. This is the place for sampling excellent examples of traditional Southern food.
