Great breakfast and even better service! The grits are absolutely the best I have ever had. The place has been around since 1945 and when you eat there you will know why they have been in business that long. This is a type of restaurant you will not find in many places-a throwback in time--waitresses that know how to serve.

We went with high expectations b/c of the reviews we read when we googled best breakfast in pensacola. However, we were disturbed from the get go when we walked into a dirty, tiny restaurant. We ordered french toast, pancakes, bacon, and eggs. The food and service were fast, but we were horrified to see a waitress picking her nose while making a waffle, blowing her nose and not washing her hands, wiping her hands on the table bussing towel, and watching waitresses walk around with buscuits in their bare hands. We looked everywhere for a sanitation grade but couldn't find one. When the food quickly arrived, I noticed that the french toast was very hard and crunchy. I asked the waitress and she confirmed that it was deep fried. I realize we are further south than my home in NC, but I have never heard of anyone ever deep frying french toast. It was in edible. The eggs, bacon, pancakes, and coffee were good, but the sanitation left us too terrified to finish any of the food.

I normally eschew the term "Awesome" because it connotes a sort of empty-headed vapidity that I normally associate with members of Mega-Churches.

But in this case, I had to agree that two "Aw, and then some" ratings were appropriate for the Coffee Cup.

If you can, sit at the counter. The stools are original (1945) although the eggs are fresher.

You will ALWAYS sit next to someone who is polite, pleasant and wiling to say "good morning!"

You will ALWAYS get faster service, faster refills and more personal attention at the counter than you will at table.

You will ALWAYS meet a server that will charm off your socks and you will ALWAYS want to go back again.

Oh, and one more thing, Joe Scarborough will NEVER sit at the counter, he always has to sit with his back to the wall with plenty of room for adoring fans in front. The counter would never do and, besides, the cook is usually African and you know Joe…

There is no better place for breakfast in the US! Found the Coffee Cup about 12 years ago on a visit. We eat breakfast there every morning we can when there. Their grits and biscuits are to die for! Very friendly, sociable atmosphere.

The Coffee Cup has, over the past 10 or 15 years, gone down hill a little. Back in the 80's, this was a hang out for the well-to-do, who didn't want to be recognized. But we all knew who they were!! Still a good breakfast, and you can't beat the prices!!

The eggs were so fluffy they almost floated off the plate but were held down with not tiny specks of onion, green peppers and ham but with chunks of the vegetables and ham. The sausage gravy was excellent and the hashbrowns outstanding.
