For the adventurous only, or those who really love to see how the other half eats. Steps from Skid Row, Cliftons is an odd experience.

Outside you can (and I often do on Saturday mornings) see drug deals by the score going down. Inside is just what the others have said. A cafeteria, not particularly nice one either, but large, creepy, and confusing. Decore is hunting lodge. Kinda clean.. I guess. I did not care for the food. But perhaps those of us with heels on our shoes get lofty ideals. This place will sure bring you down to planet earth.. or just bring you down.

The name is Clifton's, not Clinton's, and this is not a restaurant, it's a cafeteria. I used to go there often when I was 10, I have to find the time to go back (nostalgic). They have several choices of food (breakfast, lunch and dinner)you may want at a reasonable price. It's a multi level dining area, each with it's own theme. This is one of the last cafeterias in the west coast, (I have the news article somewhere) It's a unique place to have an eating experience,(don't measure it by the quality of food) in a L.A. landmark.

This place is a very funky cafeteria in a category all of its own... It's worthwhile visiting just to take a look at the place... It's a large facility, spanning several floors... The decor is imitating a redwood forest, with trees, waterfalls, winding staircases and little nooks & crannies with tables tucked in everywhere... Oh yes, they have food too... There are oodles of counters with an amazing array of inexpensive but fairly good food in the cafeteria section on the ground floor... Checkout can have long queues at times, so be warned... This place is a 'must' for the adventure aspect if nothing else...
