I kept trying because of the reviews and because I am desperately trying to find some good restaurants in Lubbock but I was disappointed in the food. Try #1, stood up at the front for a very long did not see a sign that said to seat yourself, maybe they have one now, finally after waiting about 10 minutes I just tooka a seat. Ordered the pizza with a very lackluster crust which was soft and sauce that was too sweet for my taste. Try # 2 near the end of breakfast got a very dry plate of biscuits and gravy. Try # 3 the barb chicken sandwhich that was okay but could use a better roll than the doughy white roll it was served on and a little less sauce. Try # 4 walked in and sat down and was ignored for at least 10 minutes, the place was empty and there was one person at the counter. Finally she said that the kitchen was closed but that they had coffee. I guess I was supposed to walk up and order it. Apparently they had changed their hours. I left and haven't been back since. The Ice Tea was very good though.

We tried Home Café based on the Mr. Breakfast rating and were treated to an awesome eclectic experience. Funky, mismatched collection of tables and chairs, screen doors decorating the walls, books everywhere, and a seat youself at the available table policy make it seem like visiting someone's home.
Doors open a little before 10:30 AM with a line that starts forming twenty minutes ahead, because when the great food is gone, that's it!
Homeade bread toast in both wheat & white while we waited for our entrees, was fresh baked.
The Chile Relleno with eggs cooked just the way you like them was a terrific tasting start for your day.
Biscuits & cream gravy are hot, homemade, stick to your ribs goodness on a plate. The open faced vegetarian sandwich came on a thick slab of fresh baked bread toast with two eggs. Most breaksfast entrees are served with your choice of fantastic cubed breakfast potatoes, cottage cheese, fruit, or cheesy jalepeno grits that are a meal in themselves.
The coffee hot, fresh, and plentiful with fresh dairy cream available. A good selection of tea is also available, but speak up if you want more than one cup.
An awesome selection of fresh desserts and breakfast treats are served in large portions. The lemon, poppyseed coffecake was delicious, but more than three of us could manage.
Serving lunch daily throughout the week also, Home Café is now at the top of our choices when in Lubbock!!

We eat at Home Cafe every Sunday. Unfortunately, that is the only day that they serve breakfast. They open at 10:30 for a "brunch". The food is, by far, the very best in all of Lubbock. I guarantee it. Lubbock has needed a restaurant like this for a long time!! Their lunch throughout the week is mouth-watering too.
