All meals obviously are prepared with wholesome ingredients. The new owners have taken this little cafe to the next level, added Persian dinners (wed-fri only) and brought charm and much improved service. I especially like the breakfast burrito, french toast and rotating specials. The bacon and potato options will make you smile. The also serve a number of health/fruit conscious smoothies that are top notch. The atmosphere is simple and clean, the service friendly and attentive and the food always of the best quality.

Doesn't deserve the moniker restaurant. Only thing worse than the food is the greenwashed boomer crowd that the theme appeals to. No hippies in a 'organic cafe' means the following conversation is the norm here;

"Oh i think I'll paint my kitchen that new in green color, though I just painted it last year. Of did you see marge went with magenta? I didn't want to say anything."

Everything about this place sucks. The strongest impression I get about this place is that they are pretending to be a restaurant, but not very hard, and keep being unpleasantly surprised when people show up.

When they find all the missing people in Portland stuffed in their walk in freezer, I won't be suprised.

I love, love, love the Down to Earth Cafe. The options are plentiful & this place is just the best for those who love their veggies & healthy food. Don't want fries? Cottage Cheese is offered as an alternative.

Earlier reviews focus on poor customer service - certainly not my experience during the course of '09, and I go to Down to Earth often. I've brought at least 8 different friends to breakfast here, and they've all loved it. Another wonderful place to eat in a small area full of wonderful places to eat - and I choose Down to Earth more often than not.

The food makes up for the crappy service. OMG!!! The French toast is spectacular!!!! I will be back every weekend to get my French toast. Even if I have to refill the water and coffee myself.

I was really excited to eat at this fun little bistro. The food was amazingly good. I had one of the omelettes and it was very tasty, but the coloring of the egg they used for the omelette was a bright mustard yellow, weird but good. Every thing else was a complete disappointment. The service was terrible. We had asked at least a few times for a glass of water and it was like pulling teeth to get the waiter to refill it. He also took forever to hand us menus and take our orders. The experience was very unpleasent because of the service but the food was tasty. I'm torn if I would go back. If anyone does go, just don't be in any hurry to get on with your day.

Where can you get vegan, vegetarian and meat eaters together and happy about what comes out of the kitchen? Not to mention all of it at a very reasonable price! Where? In a little hideaway in Multnomah Village. Great coffee (Stumptown Roasters)and plenty of it. From NW scramble w/salmon, Tillamook cheese,mushrooms, spinach, tomatoes to Vegan breakfast burrito to Smoothies and Organic Fresh Juice (made for you). This is also new management which was needful. Open lunches & dinners too!

The downer of this restaurant is not that the food is horrible or the location stinks, but of the wasted opportunity of a fabulous little cafe/bistro. I've eaten here on several occasions, for the most part because of the organic food. The biggest problem I've noticed is the poorly trained staff. They were nice personality-wise, but had no idea how to work in a restaurant. Timing and alertness can make the difference between a 25% tip and 5% tip. On my last visit, a class of ice-cold water was spilled on my lap (this was winter, btw). Accidents happen, that's cool. But at least show a little remorse in the form of a free cup of coffee or something. Right? All in all, I've enjoyed the food but not the service.

No heat in the building. No condiments on the table. Jelly at the cash register and not brought to the table with breakfast. The omelet was swimming in so much oil that it splashed on my shirt. Two cheese omelets w/home fries, toast and coffee for $19.98. Would I go back? In a word...never!
