I've had decent food here before, but expect that the food is never very good and can border on substandard.

I was shocked that they use processed cheese - yes - it tastes like the kind wrapped in plastic. The bacon was overcooked and greasy, as were the has browns, though they were honestly the best part of the meal. The French toast was just so so - the batter wasn't very good and neither was the quality of bread used. Instead of real maple syrup, or even the usual "maple flavored" syrup in the standard diner-style pitcher you'd expect, we were given a pile of plastic packets a la McDonald's.

Our waitress was the worst part of the experience though. On another occasion I had brunch here, the service was very down-home diner friendly. Our waitress could barely handle the bare necessities of service - and quit after taking our order and delivering our food. No coffee or water refills. No checking in. No bill.. that is we waited about 10 minutes after we requested it, all the while our dirty dishes were never cleared.

The only positive is that this restaurant is one of the few places in Los Angeles where you're guaranteed a table with no wait on a Sunday afternoon. This last visit made me understand why.

Want a nice breakfase? Try the Special. Great pancakes, eggs, bacon and spuds. Coffee is good and the service is just what you expect. The waitress are old timers and the treat you with the respect you deserve, if you get my drift.

It's out of the way and that makes it all worth while. The chef, Milton, has been working there for around 50 years and he never lets us down.

The busboys actually help with the coffee and you never get the "look" from the staff if you call for service.

A real hidden gem.
