The Hillsville, VA diner was started in 1946 and has been in continous service since. The breakfasts are delicious. Great sourdough pancakes and you can order buckwheat pancakes. The eggs are always cooked expertly. The biscuits and gravy are to die for. The only negative is they allow smoking.

I drive to Hillsville to eat breakfast at the diner because of the pancakes. You have to understand that I want my pancakes the way I had them as a child growing up on the farm. I am not interested in all different fillings for my pancakes nor am I interested in all kinds of toppings. For breakfast I want good, old fashined pancakes with butter and maple syrup. At the Hillsville Diner it is as though I was back in grandma's kitchen and anxiously waiting on my pancakes and bacon. Three cheers for the pancakes at the Hillsville Diner!!

Typical good small-town southern diner, but the guy who cooks the eggs is a magician. I think he goes by the name of Mack, and may also be the owner.

He makes the best scrambled eggs I have ever tasted, and I do not use such a superlative lightly. I normally order the country ham with two scrambled. It comes with one or two slices of tomato, without even having to ask.

The only minus, the thing that keeps me from giving a 5-egg rating: no grits.
