The Walnut Avenue cafe ROCKS! The servers there are all over it. Coffee cup is never less than 1/2 full. I think they have one person that does nothing but walk around and refills coffee. I usually have the Ahi Benidect, and sometimes the French Toast with grilled bananas and walnuts. My husband always gets the Chillikillies (sp?) We usually have to wait a bit to get in on weekends, but it is always worth it. Great food and really friendly service. I have been going there once or twice a month and it is by far my favorite restaurant in Santa Cruz.

Great breakfast with the friendliest service anywhere. I have been going there since it was the Old Sashmill. How the last reviewer slipped through the cracks is beyond me. I don't remember my coffee cup getting empty on any of my visits even when the place is packed. I love the French toast will grilled bananas and yogurt. It's addicting. Highly recommended.

I've been to this cafe for breakfast only twice, and both times the service has been terrible. The first time I stayed, but waited in vain for a coffee refill; the second I left after we were completely ignored by all wait people for five minutes, even though the room was half-empty.

They seem to have tunnel vision only for "regulars" who waste a good deal of money there every morning.

I have been eating at the Walnut Cafe for over 10 years. The food is great, always fresh with large portions and the staff is just wonderful. I really like the Chilequiles. The lines can get a little long on the weekends, but I guess that's to be expected at the most popular place in town. Highly recommended.

Not quite what you'd expect for this price range, especially the coffee, which is surprisingly weak. Attractive enough decor, standard California upscale-ish menu, good pancakes. Inconsistent ingredient quality; fruit plate & veggie sides are lovely one day, stale or overripe the next.

I've only eaten here twice, alas, but only because I live about 1,000 miles away in Mpls (eat at Al's Breakfast). But both times breakfast has been perfect. Perfect potatoes, perfect toast, perfect eggs, perfect coffee, perfect juice. Very nice. Californian's are just sooo spoiled.

Walnut Street Cafe is where to take your mom. especially if she likes to collect fiestaware or is a teacher or something like that.

A popular spot, walnut street cafe offers a traditonal breakfast in a comfy warm local. Scrambles, pancakes, sandwiches, and some specialty egg offerings.

my favorite here is the cafe florentine- poached eggs on a somewhat soggy chewy english muffin w/ wilted spinach and grilled tomato topped w/ what i think is a psuedo hollandaise sauce (but ive never had real hollandaise so i might be wrong).) i know that description sounds bad, but its kinda different so i like it. its 7.50 or so and comes with homefried potatoes that are decent, but nothing spectacular.

im pretty sure the whole family could get something they like here, but the restaurant seems best suited for parties of 6 or less.

the staff is ok, sometimes lacking the all important eye contact w/ customers.

a great point though is that it's open till 4 on saturday. the latest of any sc breakfast type thing (with the exception of the bad ones) i think. and its right downtown, so thats good if you want to go for a stroll or see a movie
