This review applies specifically to the Original Pancake House on Beltline in Addison/Dallas (hidden in the back of the shopping center with TGI Fridays, Dream Cafe, Sherlock's, etc).

First of all, I hadn't been to this location before, and I couldn't picture where the restaurant was. So before leaving my house, I called to check their hours and their location. When I asked how to get there, I was given an incredibly snippy answer, "It's off Beltline." Okay. Beltline and where? I know you're off the Tollway, but where exactly... ? The woman I originally spoke with couldn't elaborate any further, so she handed me off to someone else who managed to give me a slightly better idea.

That should have been my first clue, but I wanted pancakes, so I went anyway.
I will say this upfront: Their food is good. All of the Original Pancake Houses have good food.

I hadn't been there in awhile and noticed that the prices had gone up a bit... portions seemed smaller and prices seemed a little higher. They do have some amazing pancakes and the apple one is great.

Anyway, I was finally seated after being left to stand around for a couple of minutes, and I was given a menu. About five minutes after I was seated, a gentleman was seated at the table next to me. His drink order was immediately taken. I was still waiting. He ordered his food about a minute after he got his coffee and orange juice. My waitress finally came over and got me water, but then vanished for another 10 minutes. I was finally able to order, and sat back to enjoy my book while I waited for my food. The gentleman next to me got his food about 10-15 minutes after he ordered (about 5 minutes after I was able to order).

20 minutes later, and I'm still waiting for my food. My water and coffee have been empty for at least half of that. The man next to me was almost already done. The manager brings out my food, and I ask for a refill. The waitress takes about 5 more minutes to refill my glasses. The man next to me is long gone when I am able to start eating.

My water glass remains empty for the duration of my visit.

To top it all off, I was never given a check. The waitress was never close enough to me for me to ask for one. She never dropped one off. After 5 minutes of trying to get the attention of anyone, I give up and walk to the cash register.

I inform the lady at the register that I was never given a check, but I was sitting right there, this is what I had, and this was my waitress. She rolls her eyes and goes to ask my waitress. She's gone for about 3 minutes. While I'm waiting, a couple of people line up behind me. Then, a couple comes in the door to be seated. A second register woman comes up and rings up the people BEHIND ME, seats the people who came in the door, and then leaves. She doesn't even ask if I'm being taken care of, or assure me that I WILL be taken care of eventually. The original register lady comes back with a check and tells me that the total is something like $20. For one person who just had pancakes, eggs, and coffee? I tell her that's not the right check, and she argues with me. "You were sitting there, right? This is YOUR CHECK. You owe $20." Which was embarrassing, to say the least. I asked if she could read off the items on the check, which she reluctantly does. It included 2 coffees, 2 orange juices, 2 orders of pancakes. "I'm so sorry, but that's not mine. My check was just me. I had pancakes, eggs, and coffee. I was sitting at that table there against the wall." Finally, I guess she gets sick of me and wanders off.

The second register lady comes up again and immediately finds my check on the computer. I pay. I leave. It took about 10-15 minutes from when I walked up to the counter to pay to actually pay and leave.

When I left, I felt so embarrassed and ignored that I wanted to cry. I will most definitely NEVER return.

WOW-"This is the place to go in Dallas!" Their Orange juice and Ruby Red Grapefruit is fresh squeezed right there before you order a glass!" Buttermilk pancakes are the best I've ever had. Great coffee! Servered with real HEAVY whipping cream not half/half. I had Fiesta cheese Omelette and it was the size of a footbal! Service was very friendly. Looking around the restaurant-"it appears that there are some famous faces that are big fans here too."

There are at least 5 locations in the Dallas area that I know of, but it doesn't matter which one I go to. There are all excellent! This is my favorite breakfast joint. I'm crazy for pancakes, and since pancakes are their specialty, the restaurant and I are a perfect fit. However, I've also tried their french toast, omletes, crepes, eggs, bacon, and sausage. All are very good...but remember that this is a pancake shop. They have a huge variety from a huge apple pancake to thin swedish ones (plate-covering & crepe-like w/ ligonberries). My favorites are their banana pancakes, buttermilk pancakes, and sourdough french toast. But I'm also sure to order some of their patty sausage and orange juice (freshly squeezed daily).

Additionally, the waitstaff is very nice, prompt, and fast. It is great for quick business meetings or family sit-downs. Give it a try!

The pancakes were the best I've had in a long time. The omelette is too large for any one person to eat, so share it.
