This place USED to be so good...I don't know what happened. Oh well, and yes they do have huge portions but i like quality not quantity...

With a name like Louisiana Cafe you'd think they would offer benigets and chicory blend coffee. I mean, what a great opportunity to offer us yanks something unique from the Big Easy. As it is, the spacious, open feeling neighborhood restaurant offers a good, strong, eye-opening coffee, huge portions of simple, fast food generously peppered with cajun seasonings where you want an extra kick. Real cajun food you won't really find here but it passes in Minnesota...if it were in Louisiana, well, I think they would always have plenty of seating. If you are hungry, like simple, homestyle cooking and are on a limited budget it's not bad. Don't expect a friendly staff however. No, they aren't snobby or unfriendly, just dull and never smile. Not a single one. Unless they were talking to each other and even then it was infrequent. Maybe it was the cloudy sky on a Sunday morning? I dunno. I have a simple suggestion for them...go to the local grocery store and buy beniget mix from Cafe du Monde, get some nice southern cafe music and play it in the background and smile! This place is under-achieving but has great potential.

The five star rating doesn't leave enough subtly because really, I'd give this place a 3.5. It was better than "okay", but not quite "very good." How about just "good"?
The portions are HUGE. The menu should have enough to please most breakfast gourmands and the food was satisfying. It wasn't anything special but I would definitely return for an informal, just rolled out of bed breakfast. The service was quick and we were given our food in a timely manner. They seem to have a cajun theme they like to present, unfortunately, Minnesotan diners wouldn't know Cajun spice if it was poured down their throats.
But it was good. :-)

The food is really great--NEVER had anything bad from there. The cajun breakfast is such a treat--extra large portion of crispy hashbrowns topped with eggs, cheese, and cajun hollandaise. It is so filling, you will eat 1/2 for breakfast, the other 1/2 for lunch, and skip dinner!
A+ food

I love the food here, but the menu needs some variation and the prices are too high. I can justify spending so much for breakfast, coffee, and tip. They should have more reasonable items and the kids menu is pricey too. Service is hit and miss. I have been in when it has been slow and been ignored. There are more reasonable options in the area with the same food quality.

My wife and I love Louisiana Cafe. One Weenend we decided to switch it up and hed for Minneapolis to one of the Louisiana Cafe's sister cafes! BAD CHOICE!! We went to the Calhoun Grill where teh food was just OK and our server left our coffee empty for over 10 minutes while she was basicly making out with the manager (if you can call him that)!! We will never leave teh Louisiana Cafe again!

The food is awsome and not to mention wonderful servers that are not bad looking! When you look at the menu, the prices look steep but when you see the portions you will know why.

We have gone to the LC regularly for about three years. It is always a good mix of people and energy. The food is great and most often the service is very good. The carmel roll should not be missed.

You'd never know it was there if you didn't look hard. It's got a varied menu with all the traditional breakfast items, complimented with a vast array of southern specialties. The thing to try is the Cajun breakfast. Eggs, hashbrowns, cheese, a cajun holandise sauce, and you should really splurge and add the cajun andouille sausage. It's as big as two breakfasts for about $10. Of course they have their own bakery items and some non-breakfast items as well. They're only open for breakfast and lunch, so don't go wandering over there past 3pm. Rise early or you'll miss the great food. The same menu can be found at The Grandview Grill on Grand Ave and Fairview in St Paul and the Uptown Cafe in Uptown, Minneapolis.
