Crazy Cow - Chocolate
From: General Mills
Introduced in 1977

This cereal was described on the box as "the frosted cereal that makes chocolate flavored milk - just add milk". A strawberry version of the cereal was introduced at the same time.

Ads during the roll-out of Crazy Cow described the cereal this way:

"8 vitamins and iron - is that crazy?

New Crazy Cow means good, basic nutrition. Even without milk, it provides 25% of 8 important nutrients your children need every day. Milk adds protein, Vitamin D and calcium. In all, that's pretty impressive for a cereal that's meant to be only part of a breakfast, along with juice, 2 slices of toast and a glass of milk.

Two flavors kids are crazy about.

If you've got a finicky eater on your hands, you know you can take nothing for granted. So Crazy Cow comes in two delicious flavors, chocolate and strawberry. Your child is bound to love one or the other. Or both.

It does a crazy thing to milk - makes it fun!

All the good nutritious foods in the world can't do your children and good if they don't eat them. That's probably why chocolate milk was invented - it makes good, nutritious milk taste the way kids like it. And that's why crazy cow was invented. Add milk, and delicious, crunchy chocolate puffs make delicious, chocolate flavored milk right in the bowl. Kids love the taste, they love watching the milk turn chocolate, and they love eating it to the very last spoonful."

Known premiums: one of six Star Wars cards; a Wham-o Super-ball; a frozen pop maker, a Trick'n Teaser Book

These were definitely better than Cocoa Puffs. And the chocolate milk tasted great too. Best. Cereal. Ever.

I remember every time I was brought to do the shopping with my mom and it came time pick the cereal, Crazy Cow was in my hands in the blink of an eye. That awesome cereal seemed to disappear the same way. That was too bad. Wouldn't mind a box of both flavors right now.

I loved Crazy Cow so much. I was about 7 years old and ate it until it suddenly disappeared. I'd eat it to this day, diabetes be damned.

I remember how my brother and I ate this cereal everyday. I was only 4 years old. We LOVED this cereal! Our favorite part was drinking the chocolate milk at the end. I think this is the reason I still overload my cereal bowls with a lot of milk to this day. The nostalgia that the image of the cereal box has brought back is so comforting. Thanks Mr Breakfast!
