Introduced in 1984


This cereal was described on the box as "lightly sweetened... crispy rice & crunchy corn." It was ostensibly a combination of Corn Chex Cereal and Rice Chex Cereal. In the early 90's, the cereal was slightly reformulated to be sweetened with honey.

Ads for the cereal capitalized on the word "double" in the cereal name using the slogan, "I I Love Love Double Double Chex Chex!!"





Here's the lyrics to the jingle for Double Chex Cereal from a 1990 commercial:

"I, I... love, love... double, double... Chex, Chex
better, better... than, than... the, the... rest, rest
wheat, wheat... rice, rice... double, double... crunch, crunch...
crackle, crackle... crisp, crisp... bite, bite... munch, munch..."





The ingredients in the non-honey sweetened version of this cereal were: milled rice, milled yellow corn, brown sugar, sugar, salt, malt syrup, sodium bicarbonate and a smattering of vitamins and iron.

Please Note: We've determined the 1984 year of introduction based on a commercial we found, but there's some question as to if the commercial is actually from 1988. If you have information to confirm the year this cereal was introduced, please let us know.

This was a great tasting cereal. Loveddddd it! Real bummed when it was no longer found on store shelves. I occasionally look to see IF it has returned to the shelves/stores. But sadly no.

Picked up a box of Wheat Checks yesterday (7-9-2026) and found on the back of the box a total of 9 flavors (which personally a few of them they could easily drop if they had to to bring back Double Chex) of Chex shown as each box cover of each flavor available as of this post. Listed below is the list in order from Left to Right (at a slight upward angle in between two recipes, top recipe is the claimed "Original" Chex Party Mix. Which both my mom and I question as some of the ingredients we don't remember. And below recipe "Cheesy Ranch" Chex Mix).

Now the list of available Chex flavors per the pictures on the back of the Wheat Chex box (which is obviously one of the flavors).

1) Strawberry Vanilla
2) Honey Nut
3) Cinnamon
4) Corn
5) Rice
6) Wheat
7) Chocolate
8) Peanut Butter
9) Blueberry

One last thing, a stern message to General Mills, if and WHEN you bring back the ORIGINAL "Double Chex", I CAN'T STRESS this enough, DON'T and I repeat DON'T change the formula/recipe/ingredients. It NEEDS to be and MUST be 100% EXACTLY the SAME as the ORIGINAL "Double Chex".

I have been hunting for this cereal for YEARS. My husband LOVED it and I did too. Why take something this great away? Were they making too much money from all the boxes sold? Please bring it back!!

I remember it being hexagon shaped, with one side being corn and the other rice, not just the two separate flavors in one box.

I assume it was the same Double Chex - but I remember one from the early 90s that had twins singing "I I love love double double chex chex, better better than than the the rest rest. Wheat wheat rice rice double double crunch crunch. Crackle crackle crisp crisp bite bite munch munch.... It's lightly sweetened!" (repeat)
