I make this oatmeal almost the same way, except I mix my oatmeal with water, then I microwave it, after that I add any fruit yogurt with a 1/2 cup of the same fruit as the yogurt. It is delicious and low in calories. I do not use milk, just whatever amount of water it tells you on the package. Try it, you will love it....

Maybe cook the oatmeal first and add the yogurt when it is done cooking?

Not a bad concept. But microwaving the yogurt will kill the good bacteria. My science teacher uses the microwave to sterilise equipment.

I used french vanilla yogurt and it was okay. It was easy and quick, so that's good. I'm thinking that heating the yogurt in the microwave is probably killing all that good bacteria though.

Not bad, but just as a warning, it is very thick and not all that appetizing looking. Don't let that turn you off, though, it's a pretty tasty recipe.
I used strawberry yogurt and microwaved for 50 sec. instead of 45 the second time around, and topped with a banana for kicks. I feel like it would have been too heavy and thick without the banana.
All in all- worth the try.
