Italian-Style Baked French Toast

Italian-Style Baked French Toast

(4 servings)    Printable Version
  • day-old Italian bread (6-8 pcs sliced thick)
  • 4 eggs
  • 1/3 cup orange juice
  • 3 Tablespoons honey
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla
  • crushed plain corn flakes
  • 3 Tablespoons butter
  • powdered sugar
Prep the night before serving. Place bread in single layer on baking dish. Whisk together eggs, oj, honey and vanilla. Pour egg mixture over bread to thoroughly coat, leaving all excess to be absorbed. Cover and refrigerate overnight.

Heat oven to 400 degrees.

Melt butter and pre-heat glass baking dish, in the oven. Place corn flakes on plate, dip both sides of bread into flakes. Place in hot baking dish (butter should be near sizzle). Bake about 20+- minutes (depends on size of bread), do not turn. Bottoms will be dark golden brown.

Plate with fresh melon, drizzle with honey and powdered sugar.

Amounts vary by how much bread you use and your own taste. Special treat for lazy Sunday mornings.

I never heard of orange juice in the French toast mix! I thought it would taste nasty, but after I tried it... I couldn't wait for more!

I didn't have any corn flakes, so I pounded some granola into smaller pieces and used that. Yum!
