Baked Oats
(4 servings) Printable Version
- 4 cups Old Fashioned oats
- 1 cup chopped apple
- 1/2 cup chopped walnuts
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 4 cups water
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- 1/2 cup dates
- 1/3 cup brown sugar - optional
Combine all ingredients, stirring gently. Pour into oiled 8" x 8" baking dish. Bake at 350 degrees F for 60 minutes. Stir in dates and serve.
Good served with tofu milk or hot applesauce. I sometimes replace the walnuts with chopped pecans.

Definitely needed the optional brown sugar. It was good with warm maple syrup drizzled over it, too.

Brown sugar! It makes all the difference in the world. Add 1/3 cup in with the oats at the beginning. Without it - not good. With it - very, very good.

This recipe isn't very good. Not only are raisins not even listed in the ingredients, how are you supposed to stir in dates to a baked good? It tastes rather bland so add some sweetener.

This needs something to sweeten it.

I mix the first four ingredients all together, then add the water and vanilla. I don't add cinnamon until I serve myself... all in all, my family loves this oatmeal and we've been eating it for close to a year.

How much cinnamon to add? When do the apples go in?

In the directions, you say combing oats, walnuts, and raisins, but there are no raisins in the ingredient list. I assume you meant apples.

Great way to cook oats... I do it in 45 minutes. Absolutely delicious with cinnamon also.
