Apple Allspice Muffins

- 1/4 cup margarine
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 1 large egg
- 1 and 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon allspice
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 3/4 cup milk
- 1 cup apples - finely chopped

1/2 cup walnuts - chopped
- For The Topping:
- 4 Tablespoons butter
- 1/4 cup brown sugar
- 1/3 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/2 teaspoon allspice
Add the flour mixture alternately with the milk to the butter mixture. Do Not Over-Mix. Stir in the apples and walnuts.
Grease 8 muffin tins or paper line. In a small bowl combine all of the topping ingredients by cutting the butter into the sugar, flour, and allspice mixture.
Fill the greased muffin tins with batter and then sprinkle the topping over the top of each muffin.
Bake in a preheated 400-degree oven for 20 minutes or until test done. Let cool in pan for a few minutes before removing.
Note: For presentation, you could poke a couple thin apple slices into the top of the batter before cooking and dust finished muffins with powdered sugar.
All-spice! All-good! Apples and walnuts are featured in these muffins along with a brown sugar allspice butter topping.

Exactly what I was looking for ALMOST. The taste was just right. But in your picture, I like how there's a little apple showing at the top of each muffin. In mine, the apples sunk into the batter. How do I leave just a few pieces at the top for effect, so it looks like muffins from a bakery?
