Elvis Breakfast Sandwich

Elvis Breakfast Sandwich

(4 servings)    Printable Version
  • 2 Tablespoons butter - softened
  • 8 slices white bread
  • about 1/2 cup peanut butter - smooth or chunky
  • 1 large ripe banana - sliced
  • about 1/4 cup honey
  • 12 slices bacon - cooked and crispy
Create 4 sandwiches by spreading equal amounts of peanut butter over 4 slices of bread. Top each with slices of banana. Drizzle honey over the bananas. Place three slices of bacon on each sandwich and top with another slice of bread.

Butter the outside of each sandwich. Fry on a griddle or in a large frying pan over medium heat until both sides are golden brown. Slice each sandwich in half and serve warm.

Update:
According to Elvis' longtime cook Mary Jenkins Langston, the bread for these sandwiches should be lightly toasted before the sandwiches are fried. Consider changing "8 slices white bread" in the ingredients above to "8 slices white bread - lightly toasted."

This is a favorite sandwich of the late, great Elvis Presley. The combination of peanut butter and bacon may seem weird to some, but once you try it, you'll understand why the king loved this sandwich.

I love toasted banana, peanut butter and raspberry jam sandwiches for the odd treat.

I love peanut butter and bacon sandwiches. I skip the banana. Can't eat it often because it's so indulgent, but it's great for a once-a-month treat!

I once made a rewrite of Elvis' great "Heartbreak Hotel" featuring his recipe... it goes something like this! (Seriously, skip the deep frying bit if you are eating this!)

HEARTBREAK SANDWICH!

Well if you're feelin' hungry / you don't know what to eat

Your teeth need somethin' nutty but your tongue wants somethin' sweet

Cook up an Elvis.... cook up an Elvis.... Cook up an Elvis Special Fry!

You send for peanut butter, and honey from the shop

Add bacon and banana which you mash upon the top

You need an Elvis.... you need an Elvis.... you need an Elvis Special Fry!

You take that mighty sandwich, deep fry it in the pan

You eat it in your bedroom, eat as many as you can!

You got an Elvis.... you got an Elvis.... you got an Elvis Special Fry!
