Old School Apple Fritters

Old School Apple Fritters

(6 servings)    Printable Version
  • 1 cup flour
  • 1 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1/3 to 1/2 cup milk
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 3 apples - pared and cut into medium thick slices
  • canola oil for frying
Preheat 1/4 inch of oil in non-stick skillet until fairly hot.

Mix dry ingredients. Whisk egg and milk together and add to dry ingredients to make a smooth batter.

Dip apples slices in batter to coat evenly. Fry in hot oil until golden.

Drain on paper towels.

Dust with confectionery sugar and ground cinnamon and serve immediately.

This Amish recipe uses up those crisp fall apples in a yummy way, served warm with milk or as a side dish with pancakes.

The best breakfast yet! Sprinkled with cinnamon and sugar just before eating. Good with a cold glass of milk.
