Granola Cereal
(12 servings) Printable Version
- 5 1/2 cups old fashioned oats
- 1 cup raw sunflower seeds
- 1 cup raw sesame seeds
- 1 cup untoasted wheat germ
- 1 cup raw almonds walnuts or pecans
- 1 cup non fat dry milk
- 1 cup canola oil
- 1 cup honey
- 1 and 1/2 teaspoon vanilla
- 1 cup or more of raisins or other dried fruit (drying it yourself is healthier because you're not going to add anything - read the label)
- 1 cup soy nuts - chopped (read the label and make sure they haven't added anything other than salt but it's better if there's no salt)
Spread evenly onto 2 large baking pans with rims. Bake in a 300 degree oven about an hour, depending on your oven. Stir every 15 minutes to brown evenly. Remove from oven when it is toasted to your liking. Be careful not to let it burn. I used a pancake turner to lift up the granola and flip and mix.
Before cooling, add the chopped soy nuts (put about half onto each baking pan and stir it in.) Stir occasionally while cooling to keep broken up.
When cool, add the raisins. Eat like a bowl of cold cereal with soy milk or sprinkle on other foods. You can make cookies out of this too. It is wonderful sprinkled over a salad.
Yummy with fresh blueberries on top.

The wheat germ can be replaced with textured vegatable protien to reduce the gluten; using gluten free oats is healtier. 1 cup of honey was too much -- tasted like "kids cereal."
