Without question, this was the worst breakfast experience I had in the summer of 2005.

Breakfast At Rita Flora We went for Sunday brunch and sat at a table outside. The table was dirty so my breakfast companion cleaned it with napkins. It took nearly 15 minutes before we were recognized by any of the waitstaff. We joked that we'd get coffee sooner if one of us ran to McDonalds.

We eventual did get coffee... for $2.50 a cup! There was nothing special about the coffee. My pal got a weak iced coffee, or as she called it "coffee-infused water".

Breakfast at Rita Flora is EXPENSIVE. I had Rita's omelette - an egg whites, shiitake mushrooms, onions and mozzarella cheese omelette that cost $11.95. My buddy had a Fluffy Flora Waffle with blueberries, and, interstingly, a side of Eggs Benedict. That cost $9.99.

When our breakfast finally arrived, the only thing that was impressive was the plates it was served on. The carmalized onions gave my omelette an interesting twist, but for all the good stuff inside, it just wasn't a great omelette. Shitake mushrooms are very fleshy. When mixed with slippery onions, the resulting filling had slippery, fleshy texture.

The waffle was pathetic. It was served at room temperature and it was over-cooked. The blueberries were fresh and was a real shame to waste them on the waffle.

The side of Eggs Bendedict? It was an overly-poached egg - nearly hard-boiled - served on a dinky paper-thin sliver of ham.

The two Tablespoons of oven-roasted potatoes that came with my omelette were pretty good.

As for atmosphere, Rita Flora is actually a pretty nice place. The restaurant is part of a successful flower shop. But the prettiest flowers in the world can't make an ugly breakfast more beautiful.

My breakfast buddy that morning, told me that she'd had a much better experience eating at Rita Flowra for lunch. So give the place a shot if you want flowers or lunch. But if you want breakfast and decent service, you'd be better off eating somewhere else or going hungry.

Award Nomination: Worst Service
