As an FYI about the credit card minimum, it seems the policy has changed. I went in the other day and they allowed me to use my card for just a few pastries. I think I charged about $4.50. They do also have an ATM in the back for convenience too.
I think the prices are fine for the quality of food, and I've always been pleased by the freshness and quality of the food.

Wow, i'm surprised by all the bad reviews re: service...the people there are great!! tatoos and all..who cares!! The owners welcom everyone. The owners are quirky and love what they do and shows in the quality of food they serve. This place is a treat and my husband and I and our cute pug enjoy going there for breakfast or lunch. This place is a jewel esp. in the I.E. Food, atmosphere and the people are just fabulous. WE LOVE YOU SIMPLE SIMONS!!

I personally have never received poor service or bad attitude...and I must say the food is AMAZING! I've been there for breakfast but I frequently stop in for lunch. The food is a little overpriced for sandwiches, but when you consider the price for fast food or lunch in a restaurant you'd be paying about the same for a much less healthy, less fresh option. The portions are generous, the food is fresh, and the desserts are to die for!

WELL.... in response to the MANY negative submissions, i need to stress that you all need to try lunch instead of breakfast! the breakfast menu is a little too pricey for what you get but the lunch is AMAZING!!!! the egg salad is to die for and my friends and i have been trying to crack the recipe for the pasta salad since our first visit! the people are NOT RUDE AT ALL! i cannot stress this enough; we have been going to simons at least once a week for about six months and i have NEVER been treated badly! granted, they are usually in a hurry and slightly rushed, but perhaps its because they have a line GOING OUT THE DOOR!!!! and WHY is there a line that long? probably because its so good!!!!!

My coworkers and I love simple simon's its an amazing place and lunch is amazing! WE buy the pasta salad by the quart! Anyone that doesn't like this place should have a Cat SCAN!

The Chicken Curry Rice Soup was very good and reasonably priced at $3.95! I would go back for more, BUT they require a minimum purchase of $7.00 to use a credit card. In order to get the soup I wanted, I had to purchase two drinks for $3.00 more just so I could get the soup. I just checked on the VISA website and it states that a merchant is not allowed to set a minimum price for credit card purchases. I have filed a complaint with VISA, you can do the same at VISA International (800) 847-2911. I am NOT SORRY that I will not be patronizing this business again.

The location sucks since parking all got switched over to metered by the city (it used to be free) but more than that the people that own this place, a husband and wife, and their employees- every last one of them- are incredibly rude. I felt out of place since I don't have numerous facial piercings or full sleeve tattoos down my arms, since the majority of workers did and had an "Im above you" attitude.
The food is overpriced, a lunch for three was over $50 and that was without dessert! I wont be going back, they can keep this place.

We were there this past Saturday. Found it to be very pricey for the amount of food you get. The winter omelette was so thin on the egg part, it's hard to believe it was even as much as two eggs. And gorgonzola was listed as an ingredient, but we never tasted one bit of cheese in it. We got nasty looks when we asked for extra butter and jam. The one-refill coffee cup is a joke. Overall, we found the food to be fairly good-tasting - just not enough. Only 2 halves of toast came with the omelette. The coffeehouse ambiance is quite nice. They just need to lower their prices/be more generous with prices, and put out butter, jam, ketchup, etc., for the taking.

we actually call the owner the soup nazi from seinfield cause hes stingy with anything you ask for and he hoovers over his cash register like he can't trust any of his employees---he never smiles and his employees are rude and miserable --i can olny think its because he hires only teens that he controlls with his grumpy feirce attitude --the food is fun but has anyone noticed that the breakfast potatoes are rubbery and bland --for the price they should be fresh and have some flavor--- i wish someone would open up another place just like it but have a happy attitude--i think his wife must be unhappy!!!

The food is good, but the prices are outrageous. A two egg breakfast should not cost close to $10. We didn't like their draconian coffee refill policy (only 1 refill allowed). And the coffee wasn't that good anyway.

The atmosphere and location are the draws, and the food is very good, though pricey and on the skimpy side, portions-wise. The worst thing about Simple Simon's is, sadly, the employees. I've found this to be true in a few other 'hipster' stores in the city, too - you'd think you were in some boho art community in L.A. or N.Y. by the way these clerks flaunt their don't give a shit attitude. I don't ask for much...could I just get a greeting and the faint approximation of the slightest bit of interest in me as a paying customer, please? The attitude is unnecessary! This is RIVERSIDE, fer chrissakes! Save the 'tude for your Friendsters, okay?

I love Simon's. It is a bit on the pricier side, but the atmosphere and the food is great. Downtown needs more of these quaint cafes. I hate having the same chain restraunt choices and simons breaks the chain! Try the Marinated Chicken sandwich! It's the BEST!

Simple Simon's, while being very good for being in Riverside, is not all it thinks it is. The coffee is good but the prices are very high (a simple omelette with coffee and juice can be almost $15!) for the quantity of food one receives. Along with the skimpy portions, they take no credit cards and are very tight-fisted with both ketchup and preserves (they are meted out only if requested and in the little folded paper cups one receives medication in at a hospital: not appetizing). I've asked for fruit with my eggs (in place of potatoes) and it's often past its prime. The cafeteria-line approach to ordering can be trying as well since one must depend on the whims of the art-student-slacker-boho-babes on duty. From portraying complete disinterest in one's presence to being intensely officious, the help can be flighty. It can also get very crowded, which can make the line to order a mess. Plus, when at full crowd-scene it's unbearably noisy.
Overall, I guess I like it and go there frequently. Not for breakfast, more for lunch...

Great food-the chicken apple sausage is amazing. The coffee is also excellent. I've never been disappointed with the food. Also great tuna sandwiches. A few negatives...the prices are a bit high for the amount of food you get. They only take cash. Service isn't that friendly. It's always crowded but the line moves fast. If it were a little less expensive I would give it a 5 out of 5. There food really is very good.

Great sandwiches, i love their chicken curry one. They have a delicious moist cake layered with almond paste and chocolate ganache - amazing!

Quaint little breakfast and lunch cafe/bakery with freshly baked goodies, breads, pastries. Small breakfast menu, but everything is incredibly good, such as homemade granola, chicken-apple sausage, thick smokey bacon, spinach/feta omelet, and super (serve yourself) coffee. Seating both inside and out. Say !wow! to their bakery items, especially the moist carrot cake, rhubarb tartlets, chocolate croissants, and pecan sticky buns. They always have nice surprises in their bakery. Closed on Sundays.
