Overall, the experience is not very great. The service is terrible and the waiters barely notice you. The food is so-so, but it does qualify as very healthy. Hugo's is not a place you would want to linger around in. It is very noisy at times and there are lots of people. The pancakes and omelet combo was very good. Other than that, I would pass by it.

hands down, the best healthy breakfast in l.a.

but be prepared to wait a looong time, even if it's just for a glass of water. actually, i'd strongly recommend you get there before you're even hungry. the service is horrendous!

Number of times my server asked how my breakfast was: 0. Minutes my coffee cup stayed empty: 20.

On entering Hugo's, you think you're in for a great breakfast experience. The decor is comfortable and everyone, patrons and wait-staff alike, are well dressed. It even smells nice. There's even better than average chance you'll see a celebrity. Jerry Seinfeld, Denzel Washington, Keanu Reeves, Winona Ryder and David Bowie have all been known to eat there. Maybe if I were a movie celebrity and not just the humble world's foremost breakfast authority that I am, I would have received better service.

The breakfast menu is interesting and extensive. They offer a number of more-healthy morning options, seeming to specialize in breakfast tofu. I was excited to see what I'd get when I ordered the "Breakfast Pizza" with its scrambled eggs, mozzarella cheese, veggie bacon, scallions and tomatoes. Sounds interesting right?

It's amazing that a recipe with so many great ingredients could result in such a lifeless, boring dish. The Breakfast Pizza was a dud. "Alright," I said to myself, "Next time, I'll try something different, maybe the Pumpkin Pancakes." I'm a benefit-of-the-doubt kind of guy.

I mused on what a great guy I was - how I would give Hugo's another chance sometime - as I waited for a little more coffee. And waited... and waited... AND WAITED!!!

When the bill came, it was $11.00 for my lackluster pizza and average coffee… especially pricey, when you consider the poor service. To cap off the experience, I had to wait so long for the server to collect my twenty dollar bill that I finally gave up and scrapped up $13.00 in loose change and ones. I would have liked to given a better tip, but I need the remaining change I had to buy a coffee at 7-11.
