Food is solid and wait staff are pretty decent. Cleaner than others in the area, and while others have had to wait before I never have.
I personally don't like the owner himself, but much of the staff are very polite. We eat there about once a week, usually for breakfast, and other than the soup being bad once I like the place.
Solid menu for all tastes. Good for families, and meetings.

Alex's rules. I dunno what that cat was talking about The Orig Pancake House in Birmingham is ridiculously overrated, Fritta is so-so. I have respect for you because you are a Spartan, but man if you just want a very good breakfast, cheap and fast...Alex's is where it's at. Don't be afraid of the line, it moves very quickly (unlike those freaks at OPH!)

I never write reviews of anything but I felt as if I better step up and give Alex's some love...it seems the place does not impress my brethren. Pancakes are terrific, nice atmosphere, always have great service, there maybe a wait but you will never wait too long (unlike the overpriced-overrated Pancake House in Birm). Greek Omelette kicks huge butt, comes with a side of pancakes-great meal to share with my daughter. My family and I have been coming here for years, long before the new building and remodeling, never had a bad experience. I have never eaten anything but breakfast there, but my neighbor SWEARS they have the best coho salmon.

The reason I give this an "okay" rating is because if you try and go to this restaurant on the weekend before 3 pm, you are going to wait in a line that goes out the building and into a parking lot. The food is not that good to be waiting in line for longer than 5 minutes. I think a lot of people in the city of Berkley like the convience of Alex's being right around the corner and flock to this restaurant. The places worth a wait in line for a great breakfast are Pronto in Royal Oak, Fritta in Clawson, and Original House of Pancakes in Birmingham.

I used to eat here quite often ten years ago. Same man appears to own it, but it's really not the same place. Maybe it's the foreign wait staff now where it used to be local Berkley gals. Food was okay. Service was quick, coffee so so. I had two scrambled easy that came out scrambled well. They laud their ham cut fresh off the bone so I went for it, but they'd reheated it on the grill, so it had a brown oily coloring. Should have been done in the microwave. Not all that bad really, but I'll not go out of my way to go back. Coffee was $1.05, one of the cheapest in the Detroit metroplex. Please remember, this is only my opinion and I might well be wrong.
