Come on guys, if you're gonna bash a restaurant at least spell it correctly. It's "Kerbey".

Also, I seriously think some of you are overreacting. Who would wait an hour for their food? It's not just the servers fault if you wait that long, you have a mouth, you can ask politely what the deal is before you storm out all upset.

Everyone should have to try waiting tables at some point in their life. People can be horrible, even when you give them excellent service.

Perhaps one of the most over-rated breakfast venues in the city. Service by the waitstaff rarely fails to be anything but horrible. It must be that all those vegans they have working there resent serving us bacon & eggs.

The service and atmosphere are so-so, but it's the only place in town I know of that serves Eggs Francisco, sort of a Tex-Mex eggs benedict, a stacked conglomeration of scrambled eggs, bacon, avocado, tomato, and queso. I don't even remember what's on the rest of the menu. This dish alone makes KLC my favorite restaurant on the drag.

The food is really good for the price, plus the menu is "versatile," almost anyone can find something they like. How can anyone complain about the service? You're paying just a few bucks more than fast food, and you expect perfect service? give me a break. you're sacrificing service for good, cheap food. Totally worth it in my opinion.

What's up with sweet pancakes? If I wanted a ginger snap, I would have gone to a bakery. Even their buttermilk pancakes are sweet.

Seriously people, if you're looking for fine dining, don't go to Kirby Lane. If you're looking for some really awesome breakfast food any time of the day or night, this is definitely your place. I've been going since I was a student at UT and still go every now and then (usually around 2 am when it seems everyone else in Austin is there). Order the pancakes, migas or queso and you'll be hooked too...I promise.

The huge menu has good options for a variety of tastes. I have a friend that refuses to eat breakfast food any time of day and I love breakfast food, so when we meet to catch up over queso -- I can get pancakes and she can get a burger. In your hour of need, it's always open.

I go to Kerbey Lane frequently with my wife and two kids. We live close by, we all have our favorite menu items (migas for me!), the atmosphere is super casual, and the prices are reasonable. The service varies from being awesome to completely inattentive - just the luck of the draw. Obviously the management does nothing to train their waitstaff, which is a pity because the place does have homey charm, potential and a loyal clientelle. One the other hand, its always fun to check out the waitstaff, who, with their rich collection of tattos and pierced body parts, do their best to keep Austin wierd. We'll keep going because we have fun there, and just shrug it off when we get the wrong waiter or waitress. To avoid the wait, get there before 9AM on the weekends.

I used to work at a Kerbey Lane, for quite some time, and have nothing but bad things to say about it. The owners are greedy jerks who care about nothing but money. I was sexually harassed by one of the managers. Also, they try to make it sound like most of the food is organic and from their private gardens. The truth is, most of it is from a food company called Sysco that delivers to almost all chain restaurants in the country and is about as prefab as it gets. Maybe 10 to 20 percent of the food is from the organic gardens.

I have been going occasionally to Kerbey Lane since it first opened in 1980. For those reviewers who are from homogenized out of town locations, this is not a Denny's or Howard Johnson's, Ihop, etc. This is an Austin original, in the spirit of Austin, and not intended to be a near-plastic franchise. Granted the food and service has varied over the years, but so have the employees,i.e.thence follows quality, one way or the other. But some things have been consistent, comfortable atmosphere, reasonable prices, overall good quality food, and an escape to a low pressure setting to eat in.
One thing that has remained consistent are the ginger/wholewheat pancakes...unequaled so far in town, the migas are a great bargain(don't order them with queso unless you like too much cheese, the migas come with melted cheese),the soft tacos, and the omelettes ain't bad either. Bad service? Don't be so picky. Most waitpersons are students trying to get through school, or have been, and don't make much, but they work hard as the place is usually pretty busy. So I guess someone likes it. I waited an hour this morning and there was still an hour wait list when I left. So, slow down and live a little, or just go to Denny's.

The wait is long and the servers obviously don't want to be there. BUT at Kirby Lane ON Kirby Lane, you will find the BEST pancakes and QUESO (cowboy queso) in town. Besides those two things, don't bother ordering anything else on the menu unless you plan on purging later, which may not be a bad idea because it's not very healthy, but what restaurant really is?

once seated, we waited an hour for our food to be served. the dishes & sides were wrong but we made do w/some swapping. then we discover that the veggie burgers had been burnt beyond recognition. they took them off the bill and we left, 2 hours older & wiser.. and still hungry!

I live in the panhandle and when we come to see my son in Austin we always go to Kirby Lane for breakfast. NEVER AGAIN!!! On March 15,2005 we came to eat, the building was cold; we asked if they could turn off the ac, the response was that it might get too hot for the waiters. Several people complained that was sitting close to us.
The food was not anything special, like I had remembered. The service was horrible! We had to ask for refills, had to ask for a glass of water.
I will not recomend Kirby Lane again. Many people who know me will ask me if I went to KL, this time I will tell them not to waste their time and money. I have had better food and service at a continental breakfast at a hotel.
Also, we had a table for 3, my son had called and said he would be there in 3 minutes, he was on the access road, they would not seat us because all our party was not there. He walked in the door 30 seconds after she seated another party.

I live down the street from the UT campus Kirby lane, and, while I do go to Kirby quite often to meet with friends (it has a really warm, comfortable atmosphere), I only get the fruit or oatmeal for breakfast because all the other breakfast choices are ridiculously unhealthy. Also, they butter everything and there are hardly any menu items that aren't dripping in cheese, especially the vegetarian ones. Healthy? No. Kirby is okay if you don't mind putting on five pounds after just one meal. And, hey, this place is pretty expensive, too. Students usually opt for eating in the cheaper dorm cafeterias instead. You should go for the experience, and then you should go and work out.

I recently decided to add Kirby Lane to my choice list of restraunts to visit only to be very disapointed in every aspect. I can understand that everyone can have a bad night but when you are not even cared for after the sausage brought to you is so hard you can't chew it, and you have to walk around and find a manager it's sad. The food that we ate, I would'nt even scale 1-10 because it did not even reach the scale, now I dont think they serve food in that manner all the time or they would have no buisness at all, but all I can say is with its first impressions my wife or I will never eat there again!

Healthy food that's super tasty! Omelets of all sorts and awsome pancakes. Other breakfast combinations too, but the omelets are what to come for.
