A good family restaurant. The pancakes are great. I usually get three of the regular buttermilk pancakes with an eggs and sausage combo. Better to go on weekdays. They get busy on the weekend and there's often a wait. The servers have always been very efficient and friendly. Prices are okay.

I visited the G.N today (01-02-11) My experience was terrible the customers was rude and the staff didn't care. I was just wondering is racism still in today's life? I'm a African American women and all the customers were white. I felt in the wrong place in the wrong time (20th century). That's just a shame that this type of thing still goes on!!! Now how far will this go? Should I tweet this and ask others have they had this experience at the Big G.N or should I just suck it up and move forward? only as the day goes on that I will know.

I have lived in Dayton practically my entire and Saturday was the first time I could ever remember going to the Golden Nugget. I am very glad I did, as I had the best Cinnamon Pancakes of my life. Very friendly people and it is nice to have a place with good breakfast open at 6 am for those of us who are up early.

The Golden Nugget on Dorothy Lane and South Dixie has re-opened! The outside is fancier, but the menus are the same old ones and many of the former staff are back. It's just as good as ever! The lines are also as long as they ever were, but they still move fast. My personal favorites are the feta/spinach omelette and the fried mush. But you really can't go wrong with anything here. It's all served hot, and with a generous side of "More coffee, hon?"

I am THRILLED to hear that the Golden Nugget is still going strong and garnering rave reviews! My last visit there was 19+ years ago, and I was thrilled then, too, because prior to that visit, I hadn't eaten there since I'd been a child in the late 60's. The food and the service were as wonderful in 1986 as I'd remembered them to be during my childhood years.

The Golden Nugget is truly an institution, and its menu offerings evoke nothing but pleasant memories and great eating. I wish the Golden Nugget every success in its rebuilding efforts, because the next time I'm in Dayton (I live in Hoover, Alabama now), I definitely plan to have breakfast there, so my husband and children can share my Golden Nugget memories.

Unfortunately, the Golden Nugget recently (8/05)had a devastating fire. Good news, they are rebuilding. Will be one of the first in line when they reopen.

Best in Dayton period! The food is wonderful, the coffee is fantastic, the staff is friendly and the owners are a pleasure to talk to. I can not recommend this place enough...you wont be disapointed.

I discovered this place when I lived in Dayton for 2 years. What can I say, Now that I've moved 50 miles south I still make a pilgrimage north to have what i consider the best breakfast around.

Don't be put off by the long lines... they move quickly. I have never had to wait longer than 30 minutes. Service is quick and the food is worth your wait.

Potato pancakes are thin and crispy...served with homemade applesauce. Amazing omelets and for the kiddies...order the Clown Waffle....

Coffee is delicious and always served HOT!

The Golden Nugget is a small Mom & Pop resturaunt with a menu not unlike the old IHoPs. There's always a line, but it moves quickly and is well worth the wait.

The waitresses are friendly and good at remembering the customers. (For instance, the one always remembers my friend's Diet Coke every time we go.)

Coffee service is amazingly fast. (I could complain that it's too fast for me, but I like my coffee to have specific flavor and prefer to wait until my cup's empty.) There's always someone watching out.

Food is basic and tasty. Not overly greasy and
I've never had any complaints about most of the dishes. Grits with cheese is the only one that is a bit of a waste for me, since it's just a slice of cheese on a bowl of grits. The pigs in the blanket is good and their bacon is crisp and tasty.
