You can also store this and serve corld or at room temperature like store-bought syrup. I serve this to my kids if we run out of maple syrup from the store. They love it. Mr Breakfast would like to thank MotherBreakfast for this recipe. Recipe number 990. Submitted 5/24/2003.

From MannyMoFresh You have no clue how much a bottle of syrup costs in Germany... it's ridiculous! Around 5 Euros! That's why I will make my own syrup in the future! Thank you for the recipe. My hubby and the kids will love it! A big hello from Heidelberg, Germany ;-) Comment submitted: 4/27/2013 (#15767) From tiffany
My family loves it... we put extra butter in it and it's delicious. Will make again. Comment submitted: 4/24/2013 (#15755) From Heard424

I ran out of maple syrup and looked up this recipe. I am so hooked. This is delish. I tried it on hot water cornbread. Mmm. Comment submitted: 3/26/2013 (#15482) From H. Zimmer
Great recipe!! But I think I did something wrong because it eventually started to harden like caramel. Any advice? Comment submitted: 2/22/2013 (#15207) From Ed Love
I love this recipe. Since I will only buy real maple syrup, it gets expensive with four kids. My kids love this and it saves me a ton of money. I also add a touch of vanilla. Comment submitted: 10/12/2012 (#14599) From josie
Great on the pancakes we made with butterscotch chips in them. For that recipe, it was definitely a better topping than maple syrup would have been... although I also LOVE maple syrup. Comment submitted: 2/8/2012 (#13531) From SashaSantos
This also tastes fantastic on turkey! Comment submitted: 11/24/2011 (#13230) From Pam
Great syrup! Comment submitted: 10/17/2011 (#13039) From mercury
This is really good. It made pancakes taste like sticky buns. I might try adding cinnamon next time, but it's really worth a try making it exactly like it says. Thanks Rosie! Comment submitted: 10/3/2011 (#12970) From TexasTornado
Thanks. Made this with freshly ground cinnamon. Turned out great. For Christmas, I am going to make it and put a whole cinnamon stick in it for looks and taste and then give it out in pretty jars. Thanks for the recipe! Comment submitted: 9/30/2011 (#12957) From Kay P.
Made this this morning, it tastes like caramel corn! Good, but different :) Comment submitted: 5/18/2011 (#12690) From maia

Just got off of school and I'm hungry!! Haha, I was craving some french toast, but we had no syrup. Anyways this helped a lot. Thanks. Comment submitted: 4/28/2011 (#12613) From LeinnaTayhlorre
This is my 1st time making this... So I just researched how to make maple syrup with brown sugar because I ran out and I'm only a teenager so I don't have a car yet... and it turns out this recipe is awesome it's even better than regular syrup it doesn't taste 2 sweet. Maple syrup prices just keep going up, up, up up! This is a great alternative. Comment submitted: 7/22/2010 (#10945) From mahren (Team Breakfast Member)
I love this stuff. Made it this morning from childhood memories. Mom fixed this whenever we had pancakes. We couldn't afford maple syrup in my house in the 50s/60s. Being a bit broke this summer I reverted to my childhood to help make ends meet. My efforts didn't turn out so sell this AM, thus I checked for recipes. Seems I forgot to add butter. Makes a big difference. Other than that. Had forgotten how good it tastes. Comment submitted: 7/18/2010 (#10913) From NathanRedshield The brown sugar and water proportions are the same as the ones my mother used to make the syrup I was brought up on; no other ingredients. Have a suspicion it is an Upper Ohio Valley thing dating back to the upriver movement of sugar/molasses in steamboat days. I boil the mixture for at least 5 but not more than 8 minutes. Much more tasty than maple syrup. Comment submitted: 7/1/2010 (#10808) From pammy
Really good. We we're just looking for something different than maple syrup. Tried it. Liked it. Thanks Rosie. Comment submitted: 4/14/2010 (#10305) From Kaydee
Great solution in a pinch! There's nothing that says home like a good home cooked meal! Comment submitted: 4/4/2010 (#10235) View all 36 comments for this recipe. You Might Also Like These Recipes:
