You have no clue how much a bottle of syrup costs in Germany... it's ridiculous! Around 5 Euros! That's why I will make my own syrup in the future! Thank you for the recipe. My hubby and the kids will love it! A big hello from Heidelberg, Germany ;-)

Great recipe!! But I think I did something wrong because it eventually started to harden like caramel. Any advice?

I love this recipe. Since I will only buy real maple syrup, it gets expensive with four kids. My kids love this and it saves me a ton of money. I also add a touch of vanilla.

Great on the pancakes we made with butterscotch chips in them. For that recipe, it was definitely a better topping than maple syrup would have been... although I also LOVE maple syrup.

This is really good. It made pancakes taste like sticky buns. I might try adding cinnamon next time, but it's really worth a try making it exactly like it says. Thanks Rosie!

Thanks. Made this with freshly ground cinnamon. Turned out great. For Christmas, I am going to make it and put a whole cinnamon stick in it for looks and taste and then give it out in pretty jars. Thanks for the recipe!

This is my 1st time making this... So I just researched how to make maple syrup with brown sugar because I ran out and I'm only a teenager so I don't have a car yet... and it turns out this recipe is awesome it's even better than regular syrup it doesn't taste 2 sweet.

I love this stuff. Made it this morning from childhood memories. Mom fixed this whenever we had pancakes. We couldn't afford maple syrup in my house in the 50s/60s. Being a bit broke this summer I reverted to my childhood to help make ends meet. My efforts didn't turn out so sell this AM, thus I checked for recipes. Seems I forgot to add butter. Makes a big difference. Other than that. Had forgotten how good it tastes.

The brown sugar and water proportions are the same as the ones my mother used to make the syrup I was brought up on; no other ingredients. Have a suspicion it is an Upper Ohio Valley thing dating back to the upriver movement of sugar/molasses in steamboat days. I boil the mixture for at least 5 but not more than 8 minutes. Much more tasty than maple syrup.
