Hawaiian French Toast

Hawaiian French Toast

(4 servings)    Printable Version
  • 1 egg - slightly beaten
  • 1/3 cup milk
  • 8 slices of your favorite firm bread
  • 2 Tablespoons butter - softened
  • 1/3 cup brown sugar - packed
  • 1 and 1/2 teaspoons orange juice
  • 1 and 1/2 teaspoons orange zest (grated peel)
  • 2 Tablespoons flaked coconut
Combine egg and milk. In a separate bowl, combine remaining ingredients (except for the bread).
Dip bread on both sides in milk mixture and arrange on cookie sheet that has been very well greased.

Bake on middle shelf in preheated 450 degree F oven for 5 to 6 minutes or until browned on bottom.

Turn bread over and spread with reserved mixture. Put back in oven and bake 3 minutes or until bottom is browned and top is bubbly.

It's orange juice, orange zest and coconut in the custard mixture that gives this French toast a taste of Hawaii.

I am horrible in the kitchen, but this is one easy thing I can whip up. It's really tasty. I found the recipe is good for only 4 slices of bread though. Be sure to top the Hawaiian French toast off with syrup and serve WITH a side of sliced bananas. DELICIOUS!!!
