  • 2 cups Wheat Chex cereal
  • 2 cups Rice Chex cereal
  • 1/2 cup nuts (peanuts work great)
  • 1/3 cup butter
  • 1 Tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/8 teaspoon garlic salt
Melt 1/3 cup butter in shallow baking pan. Stir in 1 Tablespoon Worcestershire sauce. Add 2 cups Wheat Chex, 2 cups Rice Chex. and 1/2 cup nuts. Sprinkle with 1/4 teaspoon salt and 1/8 teaspoon garlic salt, mix well.

Heat 30 minutes in 300 degree oven, stirring every 10 minutes. Cool.

This is the original recipe for Chex Party Mix as it appeared in magazines in 1952. For best results, use the modern baking time: 250 degrees for 1 hour - stirring every 15 minutes.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for posting this original recipe. There are a lot of recipes floating around out there that claim to be the original recipe, but all have pretzels and bagel chips, and I know for a fact that those were not in my Grandma's Chex Mix.

I absolutely love Chex Mix. My mom make a huge batch around the holidays and I eat a big bowl every night for a week for as long as it lasts.
