Clusters
From: General Mills
Introduced in 1986

Before there was General Mills' Honey Nut Clusters, there was simply General Mills' Clusters Cereals.

Ads for the cereal featured a squirrel who was always trying to get his paws on the cereal, presumably because of all the delicious nuts in the clusters. One memorable spot had the squirrel dressed up in a RoboCop costume after he'd been denied his booty.

The following is voice-over copy from that commercial:

Tired of the same old flakes? Try Clusters Cereal. It's got a nutty sweet taste you'll never want to give up. Clusters start with crispy flakes with wheat and bran, but then adds clusters with nuts and honey for a sweet nutty taste. So if you want more than just flakes, get your hands on some Clusters... before someone else does.

The cereal box described Clusters like this: "Crunchy Clusters with Nuts & Honey... Crisp Flakes with Wheat & Rice."

The back of one box asked the question, "Why is everyone 'nuts' about Clusters?" It offered the following answer:

"Clusters is a cereal that has a Great Nutty Taste! Chopped almonds, walnuts and pecans are combined with a touch of honey to make delicious, crunchy nut clusters. These nut clusters are added to the crisp flakes with wheat and bran to give you a wholesome, great-tasting breakfast cereal. Your whole family will be nuts about Clusters!"

I really liked the cereal, actually better then some newer health cereals. PLUS... Fantastic commericals. Was searching for YouTube clips. One I can not find is the tug of war with squirrel and human.

I am so happy that Clusters cereal was still around in the United Kingdom. I wish that General Mills could bring back Clusters cereal to the US and Canada, along with Triples cereal, Wheaties Honey Gold, Multi Bran Chex, original Oatmeal Crisp and Oatmeal Raisin Crisp. Those cereals from General Mills came out before I was born.
