When Prof. Allen took his geology class on a field trip into John Silvertooth's tavern in Antelope, Oregon, for lunch long ago; the class was warned not to ask too many questions.

John Silvertooth, wonderfully named, was a wild-looking character who would be only too glad to tell you the origin of all the bullet holes, damage to the bar and other tales of his eastern Oregon tavern.

Somehow I thought oft that when visiting this aging diner with a fancy name but a few scars on the knotty pine paneling and elsewhere. A framed document advised that there would be a "mass meeting" in Lowville to attempt to enfranchise women. I presume it was a reproduction but the diner was probably around at the time.

Nothing terribly fancy here. Cheese 'n macoroni or egg salad sandwich with a bowl of soup was advertised as lunch specials later.

My cheese omelet special was good enough and quite cheap. Nothing special really. Coffee was good, my wife's bacon extra good, the pancakes not much better than Denny's, the real true NY maple syrup tasted about like the artificial stuff. The waitress was efficient and very pleasant.

Not great but you can do worse.
