Rice Krispies Treats Cereal
New Product Review:

Rice Krispies Treats Cereal

From Kellogg's
Reviewed by Mr Breakfast on 10/14/2003

This is a good cereal. Like the original, this new cereal snaps and pops as you douse it with milk. The texture of crumbled Rice Krispies Treats is a "treat" for your mouth. The milk creeps into the crevices of each clump, so that each bite is a fine collection of moist and crunch. I was worried that this cereal might be too sweet, but the makers found a nice balance, and the new cereal is only marginally sweeter than its namesake.

I also enjoyed the bottom of the bowl. The single Rice Krispies -- stragglers that broke from their clumps -- float joyfully in the flavored milk, and it's like winning a bonus little bowl of Rice Krispies.

The price we paid: $2.99

I accidentally messed up a pan of my favorite homemade Rice Krispies treats yesterday with the unexpected result of creating something with the same texture as the amazing cereal. I just devoured a big ol' bowl of nostalgia without having to brave the Walmart chaos! Here's the original recipe - I used 10 ounces of marshmallows instead of 20 ounces... http://www.merrygourmet.com/2011/05/guest-post-brown-butter-rice-krispies-treats/

In PA, they sell it at fresh grocers at 5 dollars a box. Expensive I know. I learned the hard way. In Jersey, they sell it at Wal-mart for 3$ a box. I have to buy these weekly since my BF is overly obsessed over this stuff. Trust me, I did my research.

I remember growing up to this stuff! This was the best ever, getting up on Saturday watching cartoons and eating my rice krispy treat cereal was one of my favorite things to do!

I live in California in a big city and never can find it and think of this cereal everyonce in awhile and went on a trip with my gf's family to north dakota and in the smallest town ever they had it and bought a few boxes shipped them home and busted one open and ate a whole box for dinner. not eating one of your favorite foods in a decade then eating it is indescribable :)

Thanks in advance. :)

Earlier this week I sent Kellog's an e-mail telling them I'm disappointed that this cereal is not offered in more stores and asked for any reasoning behind this (low sales, refuse to cary product etc.) Here is the response (dated 5/22/09):

Thanks for letting us know about your difficulty in locating Kellogg's Rice Krispies Treats cereal in different stores. We understand it is very frustrating when you cannot purchase a product you enjoy. While we strive to have all of our products widely available, retailers have limited shelf space and often discontinue items that sell at lower volumes.

We are sorry we are unable to find different retailers, besides Wal-Mart, in your area stocking this product. There are many online retailers who sell and ship products directly. These retailers are not affiliated directly with Kellogg Company and set their own prices and policies. Here is a site you may wish to try:

amazon.com

We would like to mention at one time this product had limited distribution, primarily for Wal-Mart. If you would like this product to be in a different store, you may ask a store manager if it is possible for them to order it.

We appreciate your loyalty to our company and invite you to try one of our many other great tasting products that are readily available in your area.

Sincerely,

XXX

Then I was looking to find out if you can dye Rice Krispies without making them soggy for rice Krispie squares, and found it! If it's sold in the US, it needs to be sold here. It was the most amazing cereal ever. Seriously, if anyone ever finds this cereal in Canada, especially in Winnipeg Manitoba, email me. Dead serious. sizzlingal3@hotmail.com

Update: Today I just found Rice Krispies Treats Cereal in a Big Y Supermarket in Connecticut!

I commented to the staff (three of whom were working right there in the cereal aisle) that I was shocked they had the cereal in the store and I was overjoyed to say the least. They assured me that they were going to continue to carry the cereal.

It was priced at $3.49/box. I bought four boxes.

If you're having trouble finding this amazing cereal, try going to a Big Y supermarket if there is one near you. It's worth the trip. The cereal is so great as a snack or dessert, especially in the middle of summer!

Three days ago I was at a Shaw's in Rhode Island, and they had Rice Krispies Treats cereal, marked down at $2.53/box. I bought four boxes. Right now I am on my last box, and today I visited three different Shaw's, a BJ's Wholesale Club, and a Price Chopper, (all in Massachusetts) and none of them had the cereal. I found this site through Google. I guess I'll go back to that one Shaw's in Rhode Island that had the cereal marked down (hopefully they still have it) and try my luck there! It's an amazing cereal and makes for a great snack. I like to pre-freeze the bowl in the freezer so it's cold and then add the cereal and I splurge and use whole milk with some half & half. It's not the healthiest thing out there but it is amazing.
