Post, Charles William

b. 1854 d. 1914

American manufacturer of breakfast cereals; founder of Postum Cereal Company (1895). The company was renamed General Foods Corp in 1922. In 1895, he introduced Postum cereal beverage. Two years later, he introduced Grape Nuts. Other still-familiar cereals followed after his death: Raisin Bran (1942), Golden Crisp (1949), Alpha-Bits (1958), Honeycomb (1965) and Fruity and Cocoa Pebbles (1971). In 1989, Kraft, Inc. and General Foods Corp. are combined to form Kraft General Foods, the largest food company in the U.S.
