Introduced in 1987


Almond Delight was collection of flakes and almond slivers "lightly sweetened with brown sugar". The cereal disappeared in 1996 shortly after most of the Ralston product line was sold to General Mills and Ralston transformed into a manufacturer of private label products.

The advertising firm of Avrett, Free & Ginsberg handled the cereal's launch with an estimated budget of $8 million devoted mainly to television advertising. A memorable promotional campaign for the cereal was the "free cash in every box" campaign. An estimate 4.9 million boxes were printed with the promise that consumers had about a 1-in-20 chance of finding $1, $5, $50 or $500 right in the box. Those that didn't find real money walked away with printed replicas of historical U.S. currency.

The first 6 ingredients in this cereal were whole wheat, brown sugar, milled rice, almonds, sugar and coconut.

I've tried about every cereal there ever was. Almond Delight beats them all hands down. Let's make it the Star Trek of cereals and bring it back.

It was the best! The cereal ads were aimed at adults, for an adult sweetened cereal, I was a kid back then. I tried it once when we were out of Wheaties - I WAS HOOKED! It was GREAT! Some company somewhere: PLEASE BRING IT BACK!

I'm thinking about Almond Delight at 1:00 a.m. Why did they stop making this delightful cereal? I remember the anguish of not finding it in any grocery store. I just don't understand.

This was better than any cereal General Mills has made. So they had to get rid of it. It's just how business goes. I grew up to this cereal, my whole family loved it and misses it :(
