40% Bran Flakes (Kellogg's)
From: Kellogg's
Introduced in 1915 This cereal's slogans included "for that bran new feeling" and "the delicious way to gentle regularity." In the late 1980's, Kellogg's changed the name from "40% Bran Flakes" to "40+ Bran Flakes" to grab a larger portion of the 40-plus market. The name change was challenged by The Iowa Attorney General's Office under the reasoning that there was no indication that people over 40 have dietary needs different from those of people under 40. Was a solidly good cereal which is missed. Comment submitted: 9/28/2012 (#9261) By lois I have a recipe for bran muffins using Kellogg's 40% Bran Flakes and have been unable to find them in the local stores. I have to admit I have not made these muffins for over 20 years, but it surfaced recently while looking through my many recipes and I want to make them again. This cereal is very special to me for several reasons. My grandfather, who was dearly known as "Poppa Roberson" first introduced me to the 40% Bran Flakes cereal back in the 1960's. I shared this great cereal with my own children and they fell in love with the great taste, uniqueness and the special memories that it held for me. I have been unable to find this cereal in any of my local markets and would love to order it online if at all possible. Comment submitted: 5/28/2012 (#7802) By DaveR
In the UK, they were known for a time as 30% Bran Flakes. Don't know why the recipe differed. Comment submitted: 12/21/2011 (#6005) By wildhair
