Poppy's Place (a blast from the past) opened a month or so before hurricane Sandy hit the Jersey shore. Luckily it did not hit the restaurant but the owners were personal victims of the store. Poppy's is a 50's style diner complete with pictures and memorabilia from the time. James Dean, Popeye, Betty Boop, Elvis, Marily Monroe and others share wall an shelf space. They open every day at 7AM. The husband is the cook. The wife is the hostess/waitress. Their children and grand-children help out on weekends. We have gone there at least a half dozen times and the word is getting around. The last few times there were lines waiting to get in when we left. Home fries with onions may be the best around. Any meat you have with your breakfast is a good size portion. You can have either 2 or 3 eggs from the menu. All come with bacon, ham steak, steak, canadian bacon or sausage. Their omelets are great. I especially like the vegetable omelet. The hash is also good. They are open until 2PM, but we have only gone for breakfast. The diner is located near the main post office in Toms River.
