Baked Soft Pretzels

(1 serving)

  • 1 package yeast
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • cooking spray
  • 1 Tablespoon sugar
  • 1 1/2 cup warm water
  • coarse salt
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 large egg
Preheat oven to 425 degrees.

Dissolve yeast in warm water. Add flour, salt and sugar. Mix well.

Knead on floured surface. Add more flour if necessary so the dough isn't too sticky. Separate the dough into 3 or sections. Roll section into each into a rope. Form pretzels on a cookie sheet coated with cooking spray.

Beat egg. Brush top of pretzels with egg. Sprinkle with coarse salt. Bake 10-15 minutes.

Note From Mr Breakfast:
When this recipe was originally submitted, I was tempted to remove it because it didn't seem breakfast-related. Then, I though, "Hmmm... that might make an interesting bun for a breakfast sandwich." I haven't tried it yet and I'll let you know when I do. In the meantime, if you try it, post a note below and let us know if it works.

Sometimes toast can be so boring. Try serving your next egg dish with a side of homemade pretzels!
