Smile-Face Chocolate Chip Pancakes

(4 servings)

  • pancake mix - prepared according to package
  • 1 cup chocolate chips
  • banana slices - optional
  • seasonal berries - if desired
Make pancakes as directed on the the package.

Using chocolate chips, sprinkle 2 small circle "eyes" on pan and a small "mouth" shape below eyes.

Pour batter all over eyes and mouth.

Once turned, pancake will be smiling at you!

Another variation is to just make the mouth out of chocolate chips. When you serve the pancake, make 2 "eyes" out of banana slices and place a single chocolate clip on each banana slice to make "eyeballs". For the nose, a raisin, blueberry or a slice of strawberry work great.

Cooking Note:
When cooking the pancakes, use medium heat. When bubbles appear on the tops and the edges look dry, flip the pancakes and cook the face-side until golden brown - about 2 minutes per side.

Note From Mr Breakfast:

The picture here illustrates that you can do this smile technique with any pancake batter and any number of fun ingredients. That's actually an eggnog pancake (no chocolate chips in the batter) where I've used banana slices for the eyes, chocolate chips for the hair, a strawberry slice for the nose and a delicious strip of bacon for the mouth.

More of a decorating tip than a recipe, this is a fun and easy way to turn pancakes into happy faces.
