(25 servings)

  • 2 cups milk
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 4 Tablespoons butter
  • 6 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 Tablespoon salt
  • 2 packages instant yeast
  • 1 8-ounce package cream cheese - softened
  • 3 additional Tablespoons sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
Create a cream cheese filling by mixing together the cream cheese, 3 Tablespoons sugar and the vanilla. Set aside. Scald milk, add butter. In mixing bowl, lightly scramble egg, add sugar and salt. Pour in milk, let cool to lukewarm, add yeast and gradually add flour. Knead until smooth, cover and let rise until doubled (1 hour).

Roll into 2 inch balls, place 1 inch apart on baking sheet, cover and let rise 30 minutes. Create depression in middle of each roll, place 1 Tablespoon cream cheese filling in each hollow.

Bake at 350 degrees F for 15 to 20 minutes.

This recipe makes 36 rolls. Add 1 teaspoon grated orange peel to the cream cheese filling for additional flavor if desired.
