Banana Papaya Delight

(2 servings)

  • 1 banana
  • 1/2 of a papaya
  • 1 large scoop no-fat orange sherbet
  • 5 ice cubes
  • milk - if needed to thin consistency
This smoothie was super refreshing. Imagine going into your kitchen droopy-eyed and sleepy. Zombie-like, you throw 4 things in the blender. "Wow," you proclaim as a taste of the tropics awakens your senses. Are you in Hawaii? The Caribbean? Nope. It's still your kitchen. Your sensory vacation may only last a couple minutes. But what a great way to start your day. That is to say... I liked this smoothie and I'm sure I'll make it again. (This recipe was submitted in 2002. It was tested and photographed in March 2017.)

How To Make A Banana Papaya Delight Smoothie

Mix all ingredients together in a blender. If the consistency is too thick, add a little milk and pulse until it's just right.

Pour into chilled glasses.

To Prepare a Papaya: 1) Cut it in half length-wise; 2) Discard seeds and use a spoon to scrape away the thin layer of pale flesh that encased the seeds; and 3) Use a spoon or ice cream scoop to scoop the delicious fruit as you would with a melon or an avocado - getting as close to the skin as you can without scooping any skin.

Preparing a Papaya

You could certainly use yogurt instead of sherbert if you wanted to. I like this drink for breakfast because the tropical flavors make me feel awake.
