Leftover Fruit Smoothie

  • 1 cup leftover fruit
  • 8 ounces milk
  • 2 teaspoons sugar or honey
In a blender, combine the fruit and milk. Pulse until well combined. Taste. Add sugar or honey as needed (depending on the sweetness of your fruit, you might not need any at all).

The person who submitted this recipe specified only "Leftover fruit". I considered removing the recipe until a wise breakfast lover named Carrie C. emailed us saying "Leftover fruit just means pieces that are a little to ripe or soft to be appealing fresh, but are still full of nutrition and taste great blended into a drink! Waste not, want not!" Great point Carrie. The recipe stays!

Some leftover fruit (probably better called "over-ripe fruit") that work great in this kind of smoothie are overly browned bananas, peaches that are getting too soft and blueberries that aren't that pretty, but still taste great.

You also might consider replacing the milk (at least partially) with vanilla yogurt to give this drink a little more character.


A smoothie that uses fruit on the brink of being overly ripe. The recipe my seem too simple to some, but the person who submitted it swears by it.
