Mam-Mam's Blue Ribbon Pie Crust

(4 servings)

  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 and 1/4 cups lard or Crisco shortening
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 egg - beaten
  • 5 Tablespoons ice water
  • 1 Tablespoon white vinegar
Sift the flour and salt into a large bowl. Work in the lard (or shortening) with a fork or pastry mixer until you get pea-sized crumbs.

Add a few ice cubes to a cup of water until well chilled. Measure out 5 tablespoons and add to the flour crumbs. Add 1 tablespoon of vinegar and mix well with a fork until a ball forms.

Roll out pie crusts on a floured surface. This will make 3-4 crusts depending on the size of your pie plates.

**This is a perfect crust recipe for pies or quiche!**

This might seem like an odd recipe for a breakfast website, but wait until you try it as the crust for a savory quiche or brunch casserole.
